Company mission

To help people win more together.

Role

Who you are

  • Proven leader: You have done this before. You have experience in a technical leadership role in a high growth startup. You have a mix of role-specific domain knowledge, technical abilities, and people skills. You have experience building and scaling engineering teams. We require a minimum of 3+ years of past management experience
  • Critical thinking: Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. You question assumptions and provide clear and coherent reasons for decisions
  • O to 1: Previous experience founding or building very early stage products for users and growing the product successfully
  • Navigating ambiguity: You deeply understand early stage startups and the inherent ambiguity. You can make sense out of ambiguous or contradictory messages then drive toward a clear path to execution
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with Django is essential
  • Experience with at least one of the front-end technologies like Svelte, React, Angular
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong database knowledge (Postgres preferable)
  • Bonus Points: Experience with mobile app development

What the job involves

  • As our Engineering Lead, you are the product manager of the engineering team – the product or output you are responsible for is a high-performing team that delivers on time.
  • To be successful, you will not only seek solutions to complex problems, but you will also break these complex problems into clear pieces; you will define a realistic scope of work for the team and balance obligations; you will advocate for resources the team needs (or doesn’t need); you will drive decisions with rationality, rigor, and documentation. You will report directly to the cofounder/CEO and partner with him to bring our product vision to life, refine our technology stack, and scale our platform
  • Individual Contributor First: First and foremost, lead from the front as a builder who leads by doing – no job is beneath you, and you understand that to build something great, you have to get in the weeds early and often. You are a player/coach leader with immediate team management responsibilities
  • Product Development: Refine deadlines for product releases using technical input and balancing key business objectives, and then execute with your team to consistently ship on those timelines
  • Drive Urgency: Index for speed and pace, and balance with the obvious viable dose of quality. Think of yourself as majoring in execution and minoring in team building. Solve a problem, ship, learn, and iterate
  • Technology Leadership: You will be the primary owner of the quality, resilience and scalability of all technical development. While our current stack includes Django, you will help us refine and modernize it as we grow. You will lean on the skill sets and composition of your engineering team to maintain world-class technology resilience for our users
  • Operational Excellence: Build, execute, and proliferate operations that simplify, enhance, and optimize a world-class web user and mobile user experience
  • Decision Documentation: Foster a culture of transparency by documenting decisions and sharing knowledge across the team
  • Collaboration: Work directly with the founder-CEO, technical, and go-to-market teams to bring the founders’ product vision to life
  • User-centricity: Utilize qualitative and quantitative user data to inform fast, autonomous decision making and product iteration

Our take

Sports content creators, known as Cappers, are valuable information sources for those placing bets on sports matches. However, the founders of DubClub discovered that collating all these creators' information was an unreliable process of scrolling through different sources. Its solution is a platform where sports content creators are paid to publish their videos and blogs on one platform, creating a centralized source of information for bettors and sports content subscribers.

The concept behind DubClub is multifaceted in that it works both as a betting source for odds and strategies, but also as a social media and publishing marketplace for the casual sports fan. The paid subscriptions to specific content creators mean that income for creators isn’t diluted through aggregated monthly earnings, meaning that in theory, content creators would make more direct income than on other platforms reliant on advertising.

Though a small company, more informed betting and higher earnings for content creators are an attractive prospect for consumers and creators alike. DubClub is only set to grow off the back of 2024’s round of $7.5 million in Series A funding. It’ll be interesting to see how the company develops its platform and market share.

Company values

  • Customer-Obsession: We put our users first, not our opinions. Every decision we make and every action we take is focused on creating better outcomes for our users. Be a driver, not a passenger. Instead of sitting around hoping things happen for our users, make great things happen
  • Collaboration: We lean on each other and work closely with users to achieve unequalled outcomes for them. Spread positive vibes and elevate others. When you see someone do something great, say something. When you see someone do something that can be improved, say something. Average players avoid the truth, good players want to be told the truth, and great players seek the truth. Win More Together™!
  • Creativity: We are problem-solvers. We work hard to understand problems, identify a solution, ship, learn, and iterate. In solving problems for our users, we remain objective with high standards for ourselves, rather than argue with the data or what our users tell us
  • Clarity: We prefer simplicity. Life is too short to waste time. Get rid of the non-essential. Communicate with directness and brevity. Be a professional. Operate with very clear outcomes in mind, plan your work, then work your plan
