Role
Who you are
- You both love to be hands-on with code, but also want to nurture other engineers to grow and shape a team. You should have ambitions to be a CTO one day, because this is the path you’ll be on
- Ideally you’ve deployed and managed an application from scratch, with confidence in architecture, infrastructure, stability and performance, because as the most senior engineer, you’ll need to have oversight of the entire tech stack and know how to fix it if anything goes down
- Full-stack is important. You don’t have to be an expert in all areas, but you should be obsessed with the idea that to deliver a great product experience you need to care about everything from the stability of the backend, to the slickness of the frontend
- Curiosity is key. You’ll frequently be venturing into new product areas, exploring unknown technologies to experiment with things that have never been done. This doesn’t scare you, it gets you riled up because you just love to solve a puzzle
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Tech Lead & Engineering Manager to join us on a full-time permanent basis
- Balancing IC and Engineering management, you’ll both be responsible for overseeing architecture, infrastructure and implementing best practices, but also nurturing and shaping your team
- You will be reporting to Nic, our VP of Product & Design
- Nic has previously built and sold a tech company, scaled from idea to customers in 170 countries, raised millions in investment, been part of the exec team of 6 startups, and is obsessed with building products that people love
- Initially you’ll be managing two, great, mid-level engineers, who’ve already proven they can punch above their weight, plus support from our very experienced technical co-founder Jules 3 days a week
- But part of your job is also to shape your team
- We’ve held off hiring more so you can choose who you want, initially hiring one or two more, with the ambition of several more in future
- You’ll also be working closely alongside two Product Managers and two Product Designers, and collaborating with teams across the company including marketers, sales, surveyors, architectural designers, planners, account managers and people & operations

Resi is the UK’s largest residential architecture specialist. It aims to be a one-stop shop for those building or extending homes, offering 3D designs, acting as a planning agent, getting costs from builders and a broking service to fund the build. Originally called BuildPath, Resi also holds all the information about a project (from plans to quotes) for users online. Resi’s goal is to open up fast, affordable, high-quality architectural services for every UK home, helping people that are often left baffled by confusing prices and processes that seem to yield little or no result.
Alexandra Depledge’s first person experience convinced her to find a solution to a very common issue. In fact, lots of potential homeowners find it hard to visualise what a project would look like from 2D plans, and often end up arguing with contractors about what had been agreed and suffering endless delays. Depledge and co-founder Coleman found an industry with low productivity, dominated by small architecture firms and wanted to empower the consumer with more knowledge and education so that they could make informed decisions.
