Systems Development Engineer, Amazon

• The Amazon Security Platform Engineering team is seeking an innovative, high-energy and customer-obsessed System Development Engineer to build critical security systems at scale

• Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
• Experience (non-internship) in professional software development
• Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
• Experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby

• Our organization is responsible for creating and maintaining a high bar for security across all of Amazon’s products and services
• The Amazon Security Platform Engineering team develop scalable self-service systems to collect security relevant logs from internal and third party systems
• The scalable data collection services developed by this team provide seamless integration with internal tooling to ensure the logs collected are helping to drive security decisions protecting the business
• In Amazon Security our challenges are broad and deep -- we build flexible, secure, scalable, high-performance and robust tools and services
• You will help implement, operate, and improve current services as well as build new features to improve the customer experience and make it easier/faster/cheaper for the customer to get what they need
• In this role, you will deliver high quality, scalable logging solutions to support Petabytes of data deployed around the world
• You will collaborate with product owners and customers to deliver the best features, using resources and technologies efficiently
• You will also help to engage other teams to onboard their services for data ingestion into the platform, aide in the tooling for analysis of the data, as well as transforming the data when needed to make it useful
• In your day-to-day work you will focus on the automation of complex tasks to allow our business to scale with customer demand
• Design, implement, test, deploy and support innovative solutions to improve service performance, durability, cost, and security
• Use data to measure success and take responsibility for the quality of your service and strive to prevent faults from impacting our customers
• Influence and partner with internal teams to successfully deliver on behalf of our customers
• Develop simple, repeatable processes that are well documented
• Learn from others and coach, hire, and develop team members to achieve their best
• This position involves on-call responsibilities
• We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant
• When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice
