Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required; CPA, ACCA, CA, or equivalent qualification is essential
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in accounting/finance functions
- Experience with SAP, Blackline, or similar accounting systems
- Strong proficiency in Excel
- Audit experience is mandatory, with a strong preference for candidates with international accounting experience
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work effectively with commercial and operational teams
- Excellent attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset to streamline accounting processes
- Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards and effective time management
- Collaborative working style, with the ability to partner with a broad range of business functions

What the job involves
- We are expanding our Finance team at FareHarbor and are looking for a Senior Financial Controller based in Amsterdam
- As a Senior Financial Controller, you will be instrumental in building scalable accounting infrastructure and controls to support our fast-paced global growth
- Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support and develop accounting processes with robust controls to ensure compliance and scalability in a dynamic organization
- This is a hands-on role where you will be involved in everything from preparing journal entries to drafting accounting policies and managing month-end reporting
- You will also collaborate closely with the Booking Holdings Finance teams to ensure alignment within the group while tailoring processes to meet FareHarbor's specific needs
- Drive simplification and automation of financial accounting and reporting processes
- Establish and maintain scalable internal controls
- Oversee day to day of multiple financial entities and processes
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
- Collaborate with Booking Financial Controllers preparing financial reporting for US and Australian entities and provide alignment as needed
- Lead the internal and external audit process for FareHarbor
- Build strong working relationships with Booking Finance teams including Compliance, Technical Accounting and Internal Audit
- Support the preparation of year-end accounts and statutory filings for international entities
- Assist with reconciliations, including intercompany reconciliations, ensuring transactions comply with local GAAP
- Ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting
- Own & solve complex tasks as part of large projects while also leading several small projects to completion
Our take
Most holidaygoers in the US prefer to book their activities and experiences online - but when it comes to local operators, this isn’t always possible. FareHarbor has been developing software to help digitize the booking process for these smaller businesses, and over a decade, has brought more than 5,000 of them onto the books.
Along the way, FareHarbor also built up some strong momentum in the reservation management and distribution areas of the sector, which drove up the company’s valuation - making it a prime candidate for acquisition. Whilst TripAdvisor reportedly made multiple bids, FareHarbor ultimately went to Booking Holdings, the US’ largest vendor of tour company booking software.
This puts FareHarbor in a strong position. Booking Holdings is acquiring companies at a steep rate (ten in the last ten years), and good ones too - Kayak and Venga number among them. This will help FareHarbor with customer acquisition, and insulate it somewhat from any wobbles in the hospitality sector.
