5+ years of industrial experiences in data science
MS or PhD in Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering or other quantitative field

What the job involves

As a Principal Data Scientist at Gopuff working on the Delivery Technology Team, you will lead the vision and delivery of data driven models to optimize the delivery experience for consumers and delivery partners on our platform across dispatch optimization, delivery routing/ETAs, driver pricing/incentives, as well as the delivery partner experience
All of that, with a direct impact on the delivery experience that is so core to serving our customers’ immediate needs, means you’ll have the opportunity to make a huge impact on the future success of Gopuff
Collaborate with our business, product, and engineering partners across the organization to vision and deliver data science solutions for practical business problems
Deeply understand our users, our products, and our data to identify opportunities for creating machine learning, optimization and causal inference solutions to deliver a better customer experience and make our business more efficient
Build data driven, robust and replicable data science models
Use experimentation and causal inference to measure the impact of our models on user engagement and business metrics
Serve as a tech lead on the Delivery Technology DS team
Provide mentorship to junior data scientists on the team

Our take

Gopuff was an early player in the last-mile delivery space, offering consumers access to a wide range of consumer goods (including food and alcohol) with delivery in ~30 minutes through its network of micro fulfillment centers, from which a fleet of drivers pick up and drop off orders.

Gopuff currently operates in over 1,000 cities and is adding more. The company has also made several strategic acquisitions to charge its growth – including UKs Fancy and Dija, and US BevMo!. However, the company faces increased competition on all sides, from Getir (who recently acquired Gorillas), Glovo, and Zapp, as well as high operating costs.

To combat its competition, the company has added a range of new capabilities to its platform, launching features to eliminate former pain points by including advance order scheduling, gifting, and in-store pickup.
