Role
Who you are
- Solid engineering experience and motivation to learn is more relevant than prior experience with the language
- This role requires at least 4 years of backend engineering experience. We’re looking with someone with experience in 2 out of these 3 areas:
- Experience with Go
- Scalability/database/Redis experience
- Experience with SDK development/ React/Swift/Compose etc
Desirable
- Experience with AWS or other cloud provider
- Python (our AI runs on Python) and Rust experience
- Message queues experience
- Full text search experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
- WebRTC experience
What the job involves
- Stream uses Go for our video SFU & chat API. We power chat for many large apps like Strava, Nextdoor, Patreon, IBM, Adobe and Midjourney. In addition to Go we use CockroachDB/Postgres, RocksDB, Raft and Redis
- We are willing to train you on Go if you’re experienced on a different tech stack (we have a 10 week internal onboarding program focused on Go, scalability etc.)
Our take
Every day, people all over the world communicate via in-app chats. However, chat and UX tools can take months to build and years to perfect. Stream solves this problem by allowing developers to build chat and activity streams into apps quickly and without hassle.
Having started out building APIs for activity feeds, Stream quickly moved into the lucrative chat market. Its customers now include household names such as Unilever, NBC Sports, and TaskRabbit, and it has seen funding from both big-name firms and startup CEOs - a clear indication of the company's broad appeal.
The company has lately been focussed on further developing its in-house technology, in order to fuel its continued growth in the coming years. It continues to enrich its Activity Feed, Chat SDK and 2022-released AI-based Moderation products, as well as developing Live Video capabilities, which it states clients have been interested in for some time.
