Role
Who you are
- You have strong software engineering experience (typically 5+ years), with at least a few years building mobile applications, SDKs, developer tools, or libraries used by other engineers
- You’re comfortable working in open source communities — reviewing pull requests, engaging with contributors, and maintaining high-quality public codebases
- Experience with observability tools (OpenTelemetry, tracing, metrics, logs)
- You’re passionate about making developers’ lives better through thoughtful API design and clear documentation
- You’re comfortable balancing pragmatic delivery with long-term maintainability
Desirable
- You’ve used or built mobile SDKs or frameworks (Android, iOS, or cross-platform)
- You have experience with one or more of Flutter, Kotlin, Swift, or TypeScript
- Prior contributions to SDKs used by large developer communities
- Familiarity with backend observability pipelines or instrumentation standards
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who loves building developer tools and thrives in open source environments
- You’ll join a small, dedicated team responsible for building and maintaining Honeycomb’s Frontend SDKs — the libraries that power instrumentation across mobile, web, and backend applications. This is a hands-on role where you’ll shape the developer experience for thousands of engineers, collaborating closely with the OpenTelemetry community and internal product teams
- You’ll work across multiple SDKs and platforms, helping ensure consistency, reliability, and ease of use. You’ll also play a key role in driving new SDK initiatives — for example, exploring how we can better support mobile frameworks like Flutter
- Help design, build, and maintain Honeycomb SDKs across multiple platforms (web, mobile)
- Collaborate closely with the OpenTelemetry community and other open source projects
- Define and evolve SDK architecture and API design with a focus on usability and long-term maintainability
- Partner with internal teams to ensure instrumentation is reliable, efficient, and easy to integrate
- Write clear, developer-friendly documentation and examples
- Review code, mentor peers, and help foster a healthy open source culture at Honeycomb
Our take
Traditional processes of debugging apps and IT services are becoming obsolete due to the mass adoption of cloud-based tools. However, whilst cloud-based development presents a modern and unified solution to application building, frameworks for troubleshooting such services are not currently something many businesses are prepared for.
Honeycomb provides troubleshooting tools that allow cloud-based software developers to observe code on API tools, live applications, and microservices. The troubleshooting dashboard is designed to be highly visual and user-friendly, thus allowing developers to diagnose cloud-based problems without having a deep understanding of computer science.
The company is building on its 2022 momentum after achieving another consecutive year of 2x revenue growth, driving 160% net revenue retention for its 600+ customers around the globe. Series D awarded in 2023 will be channelled into geographical expansion and supporting its products. Honeycomb’s approach is unique as it is facilitating the harmonious deployment of cloud-based debugging tools in a landscape where such services are essential yet difficult to understand.
