Role
Who you are
- 3+ years of of experience designing microservices and data processing pipelines at scale
- 3+ years of experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS
- Experience with distributed model training and/or inference
- Previous experience deploying systems for efficient batch or online ETL (Knowledge of Kubernetes and Terraform is required)
- Strong programming skills in Python (5+ years)
- Experience with database (SQL and NoSQL) systems such as BigQuery, Postgres, MongoDB
- Experience with optimizing models for production deployments (e.g. architecture modifications, quantization, or other techniques)
- Strong understanding of machine learning concepts and algorithms, and experience with developing and deploying machine learning models in production
- Working machine learning knowledge of either Computer Vision models or LLMs (Demonstrable experience working with Pytorch is required)
- Ability to modify and train open source models
What the job involves
- As an ML Engineer at Overjet, your aim will be to help in the development of tools, infrastructure, processes, and overall systems that enable us to develop, test, and ship AI/ML models into large scale production environments
- You will be responsible for designing the architecture and roadmap of the full-stack of ML lifecycle: from dataset creation and pre- and post-processing, model training and model evaluation infrastructure, to the fully automated deployment of models in production
- As part of your role, you will also be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of tools and systems dedicated to monitoring the performance of our production models
- Develop and maintain machine learning model development pipelines
- Develop and maintain real time and batch inference pipelines
- Implement and maintain metrics for tracking ML models performance
- Design and develop internal tools and APIs related to training and evaluation dataset creation
- Model integration with labeling and data curation processes
- Develop and maintain datasets and feature stores
- Model performance optimization, monitoring, maintenance, and reporting
- Development of generalized training and inference services
Our take
Overjet is a medical AI company that uses machine learning to analyze dental radiographs and uncover potential causes for concern in patients' oral health. Using data that quantify bone loss, tooth decay, and gum disease symptoms, the visually driven results help dentists and patients visualize their oral health status.
Whilst helping patients with their oral health is a lucrative business, dental insurance is in a whole different realm. In 2021, the dental insurance industry crossed the $80 billion threshold, and dental AI companies like Overjet have a large stake in this surge. Their AI tool, built and developed by Harvard dentistry graduates in 2018, is utilized by leading dental insurance companies in the US to help better value the type of insurance that their customers are eligible for.
This goes some way to explain how Overjet received Series A and B funding within just 4 months of each other in 2021. The dental industry may have been slow to embrace AI technology for practical healthcare purposes before Overjet and similar companies like Adra emerged, but the same products were quickly capitalized on by health insurance providers in the US. This double incentive for investors is a promising step forward for Overjet, which continues to forge partnerships with city and state-leading dental organizations and achieved impressive Series C funding in 2024.
