Who you are
- Ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in software program or product management, including experience with data product and/or platform teams, preferably at a health tech / life sciences company
- BA/BS, Graduate degree, or equivalent work experience in life or physical sciences, engineering, or computer science
- Excellent strategic, analytical, communication, and presentation abilities
- Demonstrated experience working with stakeholders from clinical, commercial, and research-oriented teams
- Strongly prefer a working knowledge and experience with the modern data tech stack (e.g., Redshift, dbt, Airflow, etc) and SQL
- Familiarity with software development in a regulated environment
- Willingness to wear multiple hats, be hands-on, and solve technical problems to move complex initiatives forward
- Ability to prioritize, set goals, and deliver results with a high emphasis on quality, technical planning, and attention to detail
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to resolve. Ability to lead without authority. Ability to negotiate scope, product features, and specifications
- Strongly prefer experience with data governance and privacy
What the job involves
- GRAIL is seeking a Senior Software Product Manager, Data Platform, who will be responsible for driving development of key components of our central data repository and platform including infrastructure and data products for our commercial, medical, and research teams
- The Data Platform is enabling GRAIL to build on its current and future cancer detection portfolio by ensuring that operational and clinical data is accessible, analyzable, and compliant
- Lead development of vision and strategy for GRAIL’s central data platform to rapidly scale and standardize our data infrastructure and data modeling capacity to maximize the impact of GRAIL’s large repository of commercial and clinical data
- Establish processes and structure for effective roadmap planning, prioritization and execution of software initiatives and features
- Partner with software engineering, data engineering, operations, commercial, clinical and product teams to ensure our central data platform meets the needs of current and future teams and products
- Guide teams in development of key operational metrics, service level agreements and OKRs
- This role will involve close partnership with Data Engineering, Compliance/Regulatory, Commercial, and Clinical Development
- Develop a deep understanding of our current data assets and platform tooling
- Lead development of the roadmap to standardize our data models and centralize data infrastructure within GRAIL’s data lake
- Become an expert in user needs (internal and external), and translate them into platform requirements and roadmaps for software & data engineering
- Assist in developing seamless, effective, and compliant access to data for stakeholders
- Contribute to strategy documents and presentations for executive leadership
- Drive quarterly planning and develop product roadmaps for your product area, based on a deep understanding of user needs and business goals
- Ensure data products are well-documented and accessible to end users
- Streamline the Software Quality release process for your product area
Our take
Detecting cancer early matters a lot. Survival rates are much higher when cancer is diagnosed in earlier stages. However, early screening only exists for a limited number of cancer types and the majority of cancer diagnosis are made later, when survival rates are much lower.
GRAIL is on a mission to improve cancer detection and save lives. By bringing together experts in bioinformatics, clinical science and deep learning, the company is building models from tumour genome sequencing data to provide actionable insights into how multiple types of cancers could be detected early using blood tests.
The development of these blood tests is supported by population-scale clinical studies. GRAIL is building an atlas characterising the levels of 'cell-free nucleic acids' (a key indicator of cancers) in thousands of individuals with and without cancer to help validate their early-stage tests. These will be some of the largest cancer-related studies ever to date. The company has also developed Garelli - a new blood test that has the ability to detect more than 50 types of cancer through a single blood draw, now becoming available on health insurance plans such as Curative Insurance.
