Who you are
- This unique challenge calls for a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals complemented by practical experience applying your knowledge to real-world use cases
- A strong foundational knowledge and interest in computer science. This includes but is not limited to algorithms, abstract data types, data structures, complexity theory, graph theory, statistics, language parsing and array programming. Ideally, you already have experience in database programming, information retrieval and key/value stores
- Have a passion for cutting edge computer science research, keeping up to date with the latest work by reading and sharing research with your team
- Care about understanding systems in depth. Not only using databases to solve problems, but knowing how they are implemented
- A proven track record of building and running distributed applications at scale
- An expert in any back end language; however, you’ll be required to write in Go and some Typescript / Node.js
- A compassionate, friendly human being that cares about and shows respect to the people you work with as well as having empathy for our users
- Able to clearly and concisely communicate technical designs and thinking both verbally and in writing
- Experience working at a product/SaaS company
What the job involves
- As a senior back end software engineer on the Content Lake Developer Experience team, you’ll be responsible for building highly scalable, performant distributed systems providing our core content creation and querying capabilities
- You’ll be solving challenging scalability problems such as how to serve millions of requests a minute whilst keeping our content up to date and fresh
- This could be via experimenting and exploring how to cache more intelligently, how to optimize our search store or even write a novel indexing solution from scratch
- Drive the design and development of valuable product increments
- Lead critical incidents responses and fix our most complex defects
- Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence through peer-reviewing others’ work, testing code, and championing our coding standards
- Coach teammates and provide technical mentorship to level up the whole team
- Retrospect and influence how our team works recommending product or process improvements

Sanity sets out to redefine the CMS market by creating a product capable to quickly create custom interfaces and content workflows while enabling teams to distribute structured content from a single source of truth.
Sanity aims to build a complex product that is both simple and intuitive to use: its open-source editor allows developers to easily create custom interfaces. Its platform allows the rapid development of data-driven content applications, and its real-time API allows users to deliver content from a single source to any channel and device, and counts MIT, Burger King, Nike, National Geographic, and Conde Nast among its clients.
Substantial funding and a platform partnership with e-commerce giant Shopify have paved the way for Sanity's app on Shopify's commerce framework. Sanity is the first investment of this kind that Shopify has undertaken, exemplifying the former's go-to status as a CMS.
