Role
Who you are
- Well is seeking an experienced and self-motivated data engineer to help build the next generation of our data pipelines and data tooling
- Experience in delivery of software utilizing Node.js, Python, SQL, and Terraform
- 3+ years of software development experience using cloud providers (AWS and/or GCP)
- Good understanding of general engineering principles, trade-offs, and systems design
- Robust coding abilities and demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical challenges
- Experience with test driven development, an understanding of microservices and big data patterns with insight into choices and tradeoffs involved
- Degree and/or background in a related field such as Computer Science, Engineering or a quantitative discipline with strong demonstrated practical experience
- Willingness to learn new patterns, languages, technologies and methodologies, aligning both with our Engineering culture and continuously evolving technology environment
- Experience working with healthcare data such as insurance claims, electronic health records, and wearables a plus
What the job involves
- Reporting To: Manager, Data Engineering
- You will be creating new services, interfaces, data pipelines and cloud infrastructure to support the transfer, ingestion, monitoring and integration of large amounts of data: hundreds of files, millions of events, and trillions of rows in our data lake
- We are in the process of rebuilding our data infrastructure for scale which drives mission critical AI features for our products
- Contribute to the design and implementation of a robust ETL process, managing file ingestion from external parties to GCP BigQuery with a focus on scalability and reliability
- Configure, maintain, and extend core data platform and internal data administration tools
- Monitor ETL processes with internal and external partners, and respond to events and/or data processing errors
- Collaborate with a team of experienced software engineers, DevOps engineers and data scientists to create and deliver a seamless, tailored experience for data team stakeholders
- Achieve operational excellence in software development by participating in and leading code reviews, quality assurance, and production monitoring
- Take personal responsibility for keeping all Well systems and data, including sensitive member data, secure and safe, according to Well data and security policies and HIPAA guidelines
Our take
Mobile health-tracking apps have become popular over the last decade, but existing platforms often provide uniform services as opposed to personalizing each user's experience. In addition to this, incentives to regularly use an app are generally focused on mobile notifications and manual tracking systems, features that require manual data entry and are easy to ignore.
Well provides a digital health platform that leverages member health data to provide users with a personalized and all-in-one platform for improving their health. Instead of relying on notifications and uniform systems, member data is used to deliver daily health recommendations from AI clinicians, loyalty rewards, and direct support tools.
With many apps on the market for different health points, the digital health tracking landscape is very saturated, yet Well is taking a unified approach to providing personalized and authentic experiences for users. The platform aims to provide guidance that is actionable and engaging, as opposed to just another mobile app that is used on an occasional health kick.
