Role
Who you are
- 10+ years of experience in Deal Desk, Sales Operations, or Order Management
- 5+ years of people management experience in a Deal Desk, Order Management, or Sales Operations
- Experience supporting and advising SaaS and On-Prem Sales teams
- Experience partnering closely with cross-functional teams such as
- Sales, other SalesOps team members, Legal, and Finance colleagues
- Experience working with remote sales and business partner teams
- Dedication to excellent customer service
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to synthesize and effectively communicate information across teams
- Proven project management experience and ability to own and run deals end-to-end
- Organized, strong attention to detail, and goal-oriented
- Ability to work independently and multitask effectively
- Innate curiosity and not afraid to ask thoughtful questions
- Energetic, dedicated, and ambitious
- Salesforce CPQ experience preferred
- Strong understanding of ACV / TCV / REN
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Director to lead our Deal Desk and Order Management teams globally
- Reporting to the VP of Deal Strategy and Monetization, you will develop, mentor and lead a global team of commercial and operational experts located in Americas, Europe and Asia, and serve as the trusted advisor to sales leadership on the quote to cash processes and deal best practices
- Develop and drive consistency on established deal structures, pricing strategies, and non-standard commercial terms for Cloud, On-prem SaaS and Hybrid proposals
- Partner with Revenue and Legal teams to craft contractual language to ensure transactions comply with revenue recognition and business operational policies
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key cross-functional partners/back office teams, serving as a primary point of contact for Deal Desk team for questions or concerns, minimizing need for escalation
- Manage complex, nonstandard deals with multiple cross-functional partners
- Maintain, implement and communicate a global opportunity bookings policy and leverage for efficient order processing
- Establish and track performance metrics to ensure the team meets or exceeds goals
- Consistently meet your Objectives & Key Results (OKRs) and continuously find ways to drive efficiencies within your business
Our take
Confluent is a commercial company built on top of the open-source Apache Kafka project. Confluent and Kafka have developed a streaming data technology that processes massive amounts of information in real-time. The streaming database technology was developed at LinkedIn as a way of moving massive amounts of messages. The company decided to open-source that tech in 2011, and Confluent launched as the commercial arm in 2014.
While the base open-source component remains available for free download, it doesn’t include the additional tooling the company has built to make it easier for enterprises to use Kafka. Confluent's value add is in those additional tools, including a cloud version of the product and a marketplace for sharing extensions to the platform.
Confluent expanded strategic partnerships with Microsoft and acquired Immerok, and in 2023 expanded its cloud platform. 2024 saw further product expansions with the launch of the Confluent Migration Accelerator, all exemplifying how the company is living up to its name by rocket-boosting the benefits of Apache Kafka integration for companies.
Now, it looks like IBM is eyeing the company for acquisition and Confluent looks to be a natural fit. Long positioned as the real-time backbone behind modern application, Confluent would gain global scale and an even deeper enterprise reach under iBM, while cementing its role at the center of AI-driven architectures. For COnfluent, the deal would marka shift from fast-growing independent disruptor to foundational infrastructure player powering the next wave of enterprise AI.
