Who you are

8+ years as a Full Stack Software Engineer, and 5+ years of management experience
Strong API design experience, and an understanding of building asynchronous systems and error handling
Experience building mobile applications using React and Redux. React Native experience is an advantage
Strong background in TypeScript and/or Python
Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, preferably with serverless architectures and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g. API Gateway, Lambdas, RDS, DynamoDB, IAM, and CDK)
Familiarity with version control, CI, and build systems
Passion for building reliable systems with deep knowledge of observability, tracing, and system performance
Excellent communication and leadership skills

Desirable

Broad mobile app experience, including familiarity with Native modules, BLE, deep links, websockets, react-navigation, tailwind, and Fastlane
Familiarity with data pipelines and cloud-native data warehouses such as Kinesis, Kafka, and Snowflake
Experience with AWS IoT and IoT products
Experience designing RBAC systems for both internal and external applications
Experience with compliance requirements such as ISO27001, SOC2, GDPR, and CPRA

What the job involves

We’re looking for a hands-on Tech Lead / Manager to lead our Product Applications software team. This team is responsible for building and maintaining our end-to-end applications across web, mobile, cloud, and data that support our user experiences
You'll lead a cross functional group of engineers, guide architectural decisions, and help scale products that are critical to our success
Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of engineers building web and mobile applications, cloud backends, and data pipelines
Drive end-to-end technical delivery—from architecture and design to implementation and production operations
Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver intuitive and performant user experiences
Champion modern software development practices, including CI/CD, IaC, observability, and test automation
Ensure the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of our systems
Directly contribute to our applications - you’ll be regularly writing code!
Promote a culture of ownership, learning, and continuous improvement

Our take

Wasted food and its decomposition do more for CO2 emissions globally than the entire airline industry combined. Whilst food waste bins run by local councils in the US do redirect the majority of food waste to recycling plants, there are still holes to plug, which is exactly what Mill is doing.

For a yearly subscription, customers can buy and use a combined waste tracking and impact app alongside the company’s purpose-made food waste bin. Unlike other bins for food waste, Mill’s product shrinks and dehydrates waste so that there’s no smell or runoff. Mill will dispose of your waste themselves, and use it for sustainable chicken feed.

With a number of high profile environmentally-friendly investors behind them, the Mill ecosystem has a range of benefits for company subscribers as well as individuals. Restaurants and offices can subscribe to Mill and help to move towards sustainability goals, whilst partnerships with local farms provide a solid revenue structure.

Mill is only available in the US, but since its successful first-gen launch in 2023, it has been using funding from that year to enhance its product offering and reach a wider market.
