- You are passionate about the entire employee experience from recruiting, onboarding, development, and offboarding; you have a high standard for your work with an eye for detail and best practices without sacrificing speed; and most of all, you believe in data-driven HR decisions and are able to pivot and come up with solutions based on garnered insights
- 4+ years experience in people operations working in a fast-paced environment, preferably at a start-up
- Thoughtful execution - you ask questions, do research, and take the time to build a strong foundation before diving into tactical steps
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills - you are able to keep track of a variety of work streams and prioritize accordingly
- Analytical thinker, you’re able to run reports and identify patterns through data, and present this data to senior management in a way that enables decision-making
- Not afraid to roll up your sleeves, while keeping an eye out for opportunities to make an existing process more efficient or level up the way we do things to a higher standard
- An eye for detail and a knack for fast but precise work

What the job involves
- Clutch is looking for a Senior Manager, People Operations to join the growing People Operations team!
- At Clutch, you have the opportunity to work in an environment in which People Operations has a seat at the table and the business truly values strategic human resources partnership and results
- You will touch upon all foundational areas of HR from talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, training and development, engagement and retention, workforce planning, HR compliance, workplace safety, and payroll administration, but you will also be given the exciting opportunity to zoom out to re-examine, formalize, and build Clutch’s HR practices from scratch
- Own, develop, and iterate on policies and processes to ensure a best-in-class employee experience – you’ll act as a strong advisor of the policies and processes that keep Clutch running day to day
- Participate in recruiting activities and own recruiting for senior level positions
- Build reporting and metrics to measure recruiting efficiency and effectiveness, as well as headcount efficiency of different teams and Clutch overall
- Use above mentioned metrics to assist with workforce planning and compensation and total rewards review
- Oversee HRIS, benefits, and payroll administration
- Oversee and administer hourly and salary payroll with oversight and review from the Head of Finance
- Research statutory obligations and gold standard human resources policies to provide guidance to leadership and team
- When appropriate, conduct workplace investigations, handle grievances, arbitrations, and conduct discipline and performance management meetings
- Lead our semi-annual and annual review processes, using compensation data sets to help organization leaders benchmark and level roles within teams
- Plan the employee onboarding and offboarding experience
- This is a full-time in-office position - you will be splitting your time between our downtown HQ at 60 Adelaide Street East and our Etobicoke production facility at 223 Evans Avenue
Our take
Buying used cars is notoriously something of a minefield - but used car sales platform Clutch is making big strides to sweep away the risk. The marketplace lists certified vehicles for users to shop, and have home delivered, along with a full carfax, insurance, warranty, and optional financing.
The used car sales market has been undergoing something of a digital overhaul in recent years, with a flurry of used car marketplaces cropping up to offer similar services. Canada, however, remains relatively non-competitive compared with the U.S. and Europe. This means Clutch has the luxury of importing a tried-and-tested model into a relatively spacious market.
Clutch will, however, have to face off with close competitor Canada Drives. The two companies enjoy comparable levels of funding and are currently the top competitors in Canada’s used car market. With this market hotting up significantly, Clutch will need to tread carefully to ensure they come out on top.
