Role
Who you are
- We are looking for a Staff Engineer with both technical and leadership experience
- At least ten years of total experience, with recent hands-on experience writing production-level code (Python is preferred / Java / C++ / Go)
- Expertise in a cloud platform such as AWS (preferred), GCP, Azure
- Expertise in relational databases, such as PostgreSQL
- Experience with Django or with a similar web framework
- At least two years of experience building data processing pipelines
- Experience leading and coordinating cross-functional architectural projects and rollouts
- Experience writing highly available and low latency services, and know how to deploy and keep them running in production
- A strong focus on clean code and architecture. Advocate for engineering best practices that allow code to be flexible, scalable, maintainable, and approachable to other engineers
- An ability to dive deep into issues quickly and identify the root cause effectively, bringing calm and rationality to tense situations
- A demonstrated ability to work across engineering teams on projects that elevate not just our own systems and designs, but those of other teams as well
What the job involves
- In this role, you will be responsible for leading technical efforts that affect multiple squads to address the most pressing technical needs that impact the organization
- These efforts could range from driving architectural choices, to deep dives into cross-team performance issues, to driving alignment on specific technology choices
- You will partner closely with engineering leadership to drive the overall technical direction of your team over our next phase of growth
- The team you will join is the AutoProgression Team (or the A-Team for short)
- This team offers an experienced and mature engineering culture and an environment where every single engineer has a direct impact on the success of our business
- On the AutoProgression team, we’re focused on creating a seamless and frictionless experience for providers working in the Stellar application
- This includes ingesting and transforming data so that providers trust our application as an up-to-date source of truth, evolving the frontend user experience to be more intuitive and insightful, and everything in between
- The team is tight-knit with high ownership, so your work will have a meaningful impact on our ability to directly improve patient access to health care
- Build best-in-class applications and services
- Share in the ownership of the technical direction and impact of the platform
- Work with the team to align on product roadmaps, specifications, and priorities
- Ensure our users are presented with timely and accurate information that helps them do their job
- Evolve the architecture to improve operational efficiency and support business growth
- Actively contribute to Stellar’s Engineering Culture and ensure engineers are writing clear and concise production code for the Stellar Health Platform
- Provide effective and constructive feedback by reviewing others’ work
- Set consistent standards via code and design reviews, as well as your own technical contributions
- Expand and improve our EHR (Electronic Health Record) Data Pipeline, which ingests and transforms clinical data from diverse sources every day for over 200K patients (and counting!)
- Create and expand features in the Stellar Health application powered by EHR Data
Our take
A problem in healthcare is little thought is given to the doctors and staff who coordinate all of the daily patient workflow, such as historical claims, pharmacy requests, lab work, testing and billing. Stellar Health aims to drastically reduce these 'chores' through a cloud-based platform on which primary care providers can offer value-based care through real-time information updates about patients.
The point-of-care workflow platform also strives to close the incentive gap between payors and care providers by helping practitioners earn more revenue for keeping patients healthy, rather than simply charging for procedures and treatments. While Stellar Health faces stiff competition from major players such as Siemens Healthcare and AthenaHealth, it has already made great ground in the market with over 1.1M patients across 37 states.
The company has secured significant investment from Primary Venture Partners and Point 72. This funding and its growing revenue are being put towards further scaling its operations and accelerating its product development. Operating in a rapidly growing industry which reached a value of over $4 billion in 2025, Stellar Health is in a good position for future growth and success.
