AI Engineer, nPlan

I have been supported in making a career pivot while at nPlan, from Customer Success to Product Management. nPlan supported me through this transition through learning opportunities.

At nPlan I feel comfortable being myself and confident that my colleagues care about me. We work collaboratively, but are supported to provide constructive feedback to get to the best outcomes.

The work is challenging, unique and focuses on making the world a better place. nPlan supports flexible working; I mostly work remotely and am judged on my outcomes.

Everyone in the company shows a real respect for self-care and the need for a healthy work-life balance. Employees are not made to feel guilty for taking time off when they need it and openly addressing concerns or stress

Radical candor is one of the main company values, and there is a real effort from management to be open and direct about what is happening. Everyone is welcome to join other team's meetings or slack channel, and has access to the same company-wide documentation including meeting notes.

The company puts real effort into making sure that everyone who joins fits in with the company values, including a dedicated "values" interview as part of the recruitment process. Given that the company size is still small (<50 people), I think this really helps in making everyone feel aligned from the start.

A truly first-of-its-kind solution means that there is often to set path or route behind what we should build. Exciting to think about the scope and potential around building something without a template and with a truly open-ended problem.

There on very few constraints on how / when / where employees work at nPlan, which can seem like somewhat of a trope these days, but being truly free means productivity increases and people have a much better day-to-day life. Being able to chose how I work helps me to feel empowered to do the best work that I can.

I love working for nPlan because the work we are doing and the products we are building have real, tangible impact on the world around us. Our values aren't just words on a page - we really live by them and they're threaded through everything that we do. We even have them as Slack emojis! Knowing we are all working with the same values in mind definitely helps to bond us as a team and enables us to work not only fast but well - we focus on the right things. We build our values into our hiring process too, which means that we are confident that the people joining us align with what matters to us.

As an ML Engineer, I have the opportunity to work with a massive dataset with a unique structure. Graphs, language models, and uncertainty estimation are a few examples of topics we have to tackle in just one of our products.

Solving our problems is entirely up to the engineering team, where everyone contributes with ideas. Moonshots are also highly encouraged, either as a team or as a solo side-project. Good ideas can even change our roadmap -- serendipity is the boss.
