Role
Who you are
- Knowledge or interest in learning authentication and authorization systems and standards is a plus
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
- 7+ years of software development experience
- Experience mentoring other engineers and providing technical leadership within a team
- Experience performing root cause analyses of issues that span multiple systems
- Experience driving alignment through clear, objective written artifacts (decision memos, design docs, strategy docs )
- Experience with CI/CD and advanced deployment strategies
- Experience with full-stack engineering including multiple languages, frameworks and systems. Familiarity with Go, RDS and DynamoDB, ReactNative and NodeJS
- Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems including Authentication (OpenID Connect or OIDC) and Authorization (OPA, OpenFGA, Cedar, Zanzibar)
- Proficient at working across multiple languages, microservices, technologies and systems
What the job involves
- The Customer Authentication Platform team's (part of the larger Identity and Trust org) mission is to offer Remitly's global customers a way to securely access Remitly's varied products, features, or services through a consistent, modern, and a low friction experience thereby reinforcing Remitly's mission to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders
- As a Senior Software Engineer in the Customer Authentication Platform team, you will be leading large projects utilizing your experience building backend, distributed systems and frontend
- You will report to the Sr. Engineering Manager of the Customer Authentication platform team
- Influence the technical strategy and the architecture for the team, in partnership with the Engineering Manager, Product Manager and other senior engineers
- Lead large initiatives from inception to planning to delivery
- Mentor other engineers in the team, setting the standards for engineering and operational excellence
- Build frontend systems based on ReactNative, NodeJS. Build backend APIs and systems, working with technologies like Go, RDS/DynamoDB, event-driven systems (SNS/SQS)
- Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and collaborate with team members to maintain code quality and standards
- Troubleshoot and debug issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions to ensure the reliability and performance of our applications

Since its inception in 2011 Remitly has focussed on helping immigrants to send money across the world faster, cheaper and easier. The company has grown exponentially since then and now operate across multiple continents. Remitly put down most of their success from putting their customers first.
The emergence of digital banks with low transaction fees cross-country has increased the competition in a space whereas previously Remitly was dominant for many years. The company must continue to innovate on product to make sure they're the go-to place for these types of payments.
However, Remitly continues to partner with exciting companies and improve their service for loyal customers. The company is setting its sights beyond its core remittance service, such as through recent introduction of Passbook, an app that allows customers to access digital banking through a partner bank.
