- Strong understanding of principles of A/B testing, and experience crafting and analyzing experiments

- Proficiency with SQL, Looker, R/Python
- Experience with large datasets and using the data to influence business decisions
- Experience presenting to senior leadership, distilling technical insights into crisp and compelling narratives
- Excellent judgment, strong problem-solving skills, and capacity to make data-driven recommendations in ambiguous situations
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior Manager of Product Analytics
- You are an inspirational people leader with experience in product analytics
- You and your team will optimize Search from the frontend buyer experience to the machine learning models powering the items we show
- You will lead a team of data scientists collaborating directly with Product, Engineering, Design, and Research leaders
- You will also lead execution on strategic analyses which uncover Search’s future focus areas
- The Product Analytics team partners closely with leads within the Product org to deliver user insights grounded in data, pursue growth opportunities, and measure the impact of our efforts
- This is a full time position reporting to the Head of Search, Recs, and Ads Analytics
- More broadly, the Analytics team at Etsy helps drive the success of our partners by providing meaningful insights, industry-leading measurement techniques, and access to the metrics, data, and tools needed for decision-making and optimization
- We partner with our peers through all stages of development: identifying initial opportunities, analyzing the impact, and highlighting improvement areas. Ultimately, the team’s work strengthens Etsy and helps continuously improve the Etsy experience
- Leadership: Lead a high functioning analytics team by raising the skill level of our Analytics function through the introduction of strong practices, processes, tools and close mentorship of both direct reports and the broader team
- Experimentation: Support data scientists in decision making in A/B experimentation, grounded in statistical rigor
- Proactive Analysis: Build and execute on a roadmap for strategic analysis which will uncover the next stage of growth for Search and Etsy
- Strategy: Partner with leaders in Search and across the Product Organization to develop long term strategy, delivering data driven insights to support the direction for multi-year investments of cross-functional product teams
- Communication: Present key insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders across the company
- Self-service insights: Lead efforts to make data more accessible for partners through development of data infrastructure, integration with existing tools, and explorations of new ones

Our take
Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art, and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.
Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.
However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. The recent hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers has created significant discontent amongst sellers. Etsy must reconcile these issues to ensure artists continue to operate on the same scale within the platform. It plans to attract shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
