Who you are

Strong knowledge of Linux administration, networking, and troubleshooting in production environments
Several years of experience in a DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering role
A solid understanding of infrastructure-as-code principles and modern deployment practices

Desirable

Experience writing and managing Terraform modules and state at scale
Comfortable scripting and building tooling in Python
Experience designing and maintaining pipelines in GitLab CI/CD
Familiarity with infrastructure security practices such as secrets management, vulnerability scanning
Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker)
Familiarity with observability tooling (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)

What the job involves

Shape the infrastructure that powers our engineers. Own CI/CD, AWS & Linux systems, and drive developer productivity in a hands-on Senior DevOps role with real ownership
Hours of work: 40 hours per week
We're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Internal Infrastructure & Tooling team. You will be working on meaningful infrastructure problems that directly impact engineering productivity
You'll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the platforms and tooling that our engineering teams rely on every day. This is a hands-on role with ownership over mature and emerging systems
Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS and on premises hardware, ensuring reliability, performance, and cost efficiency
Own and evolve our CI/CD pipelines, enabling engineering teams to develop their products with confidence
Manage and harden Linux-based systems across our internal estate
Develop internal tooling and automation to improve developer experience and operational efficiency
Collaborate with security stakeholders to embed best practices into infrastructure and deployment workflows
Contribute to incident response and post-incident reviews
Mentor other engineers and lead by example for infrastructure standards across the organisation

FocalPoint was founded in 2015 with the intention of revolutionising GPS and GNSS by improving their accuracy. The credibility and experience of the company's team lends FocalPoint a clear edge; it consists of alumni of the UK aerospace industry, The European Space Agency, Cambridge, Oxford, UCL and Imperial College.

FocalPoint identified that satellite positioning is impeded by reflected, obscured and weak satellite signals, especially in built-up environments. This causes positioning and timing errors on GNSS-dependent devices, despite more and more day-to-day technologies using GNSS systems, such as ride-hailing apps. As such, FocalPoint's solutions have a near-limitless spectrum of applications. Its tech offers increased mapping accuracy on wearables, mobiles and autonomous drones, positioning it well within other high-growth markets.

The appointment of GPS expert Scott Pomerantz in 2021 drove the company forward towards global success, bringing his 30 years of experience in positioning and semiconductors. The company raised substantial funding the following year, which has helped it accelerate rollout.
