Who you are
- 7+ years of experience building resilient, high-throughput services and distributed systems
- Comfortable with asynchronous communications and multi-threading concepts and languages
- Experience with data storage technologies like MySQL, DynamoDB, Kafka, Redis, Memcached
- Very strong understanding of REST APIs
- Experience troubleshooting complex production issues
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
Desirable
- Experience with Java
- Experience with DevOps
- Experience with IAM protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SCIM
What the job involves
- This position is needed to take Twilio's Identity and Access Management Platform to the next level. You will be part of an experienced team building and complex, high-scale, highly-available distributed systems that all Twilio products build on top of. Our team has end-to-end ownership of services that process billions of requests per day
- Build APIs, storage systems, cache layers and workflows to support complex business logic
- Collaborate with other Engineers, Product Owners and Designers
- Participate in agile development with rapid, iterative, frequently deployed applications
- Mentor other more junior engineers
Our take
Traditionally, it has been difficult for businesses to establish communications systems in-house. Twilio was founded from frustration with this expensive and cumbersome process, providing easy-to-use APIs to let businesses send and receive telephone and text communications.
From these beginnings, the company has expanded through acquisitions and product development to provide a suite of services around market data and customer engagement. It is now a market leader in this space, and has developed a customer base of more than 150,000 businesses including enterprise brands such as Deliveroo, Duolingo and Toyota.
With that said, aggressive expansion and lack of maturity in some of its products has impacted the company's efficiency, and like many of its peers it has been forced to restructure heavily to remain competitive. Coming out of this restructuring, the company will focus on profitability, streamlining decision making and R&D to put itself in good stead for future success.
