- A builder at heart—curious, hands-on, and energized by solving deep technical challenges with simplicity and empathy
- Familiar with developer tools, APIs, and technical environments—and not afraid to dig into repos or talk through tradeoffs
- Comfortable working across disciplines. Whether it’s writing a spec, debugging an edge case, or helping marketing position a feature, you can navigate ambiguity and keep momentum
- A strong communicator who can write clearly, think systematically, and distill complexity into clarity, especially in writing
- Detail-oriented and eager to polish features until they feel effortless
- A strategic thinker who sees the big picture, but also obsesses over the tiny details that make a tool feel magical

What the job involves
- ReadMe is hiring a Product Manager to help us redefine how developers interact with APIs and to ensure documentation feels alive, not just written
- You’ll ensure our product doesn’t just work…it anticipates developers’ needs, simplifies complexity, and feels like it’s on their side
- Since we’re a startup, you’ll have the opportunity to make a huge difference across the company
- You’ll also have the flexibility and freedom to tackle big initiatives beyond your day-to-day scope, if that’s what excites you
- You’ll be responsible for shaping and improving the parts of ReadMe that developers interact with every day—like the API Explorer, reference guides, and SDKs—making sure they feel intuitive, powerful, and genuinely helpful
- You’ll turn complex systems into interfaces and workflows that feel natural and easy to navigate—even when the underlying tech isn’t
- You’ll think critically about onboarding, defaults, and feature discoverability so the best version of our product is the one users experience first — not the one they have to dig for
- Our philosophy is "no excuses." If something is confusing, we don’t explain it away, we fix it
- You’ll help shape the product so customers don’t hit snags in the first place
- You'll chat with users, dig into where they’re getting stuck, and help the team understand where things feel clunky or confusing
- Be the connective tissue across product, design, engineering, and support—ensuring every decision is rooted in what’s best for the developers who use ReadMe
- While you won’t be expected to ship production code, you should feel comfortable reading APIs, inspecting dev environments, and exploring technical edge cases in a GitHub repo

- Be fully ramped on our product and dev workflows
- Talk to customers to understand their current friction points and goals
- Lead product work on one or two meaty product areas — whether it’s the editor, API Explorer, SDKs, or something else

- Guide features from zero to launch with clear specs, thoughtful scoping, and strong execution
- Actively contribute to cross-company initiatives that raise the bar for our developer experience, product quality, and internal processes

- If we think we might be a good fit for you, we’ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with Ashley, our VP of Product! She’ll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences
- Next will be a second 30 minute phone interview with Greg, our CEO and Founder, where we’ll dive a bit more into your background
- Then we’ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the team so you can meet the people you’ll be working with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on
- We’ll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we’ll extend you an offer! If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren’t left hanging

APIs help different tools communicate with one another, let developers access essential services without the need to code and are critical components when driving a platform-driven strategy. However, they require solid documentation in order to help make the best use of them.
ReadMe is a platform powering interactive developer hubs that help customers build out their API documentation. They allow developers to make calls faster while quickly troubleshooting issues along the way to provide teams with the highest-impact improvements.
The company was part of the Y Combinator Winter 2015 cohort and since then it has grown steadily and profitably by working with over 3,000 companies, including Microsoft, Coinbase, Notion, and Afterpay. Because the company worked with such big names from an early stage, it focused primarily on developing its API logs to create more dynamic documentation, putting the startup in a prime position for further expansion.
