Who you are

Candidates should have experience implementing systems using Python, including integrating with a diverse set of data stores and cloud services
They will need to interface with many teams across Spire to adapt user needs into system requirements and have the experience to collaborate and iterate on the resultant projects
5+ years professional software engineering, devops, or SRE experience
Demonstrated ability to apply data analysis techniques to solve complex technical and business problems
Familiarity with Linux, including Bash scripting and basic system administration
Familiarity with data analysis and data analysis tools
Proficiency using and developing containers for development and production environments
5+ years of experience with system development using Python
Familiarity with data backends like S3, RDS, Postgres, Redis, and Elasticsearch
Experience with Databricks
Familiarity with Python data visualization libraries
Experience implementing monitoring and alerting system using systems like Grafana, Prometheus, or Nagios

What the job involves

As a Software Engineer working with the Space Reliability Engineering team, you will be working with a small team in an agile environment
You will be working on systems and tools that improve the efficiency of the satellite fleet
Develop operational automation for mission execution, anomaly detection and resolution, space situational awareness, and performance monitoring
Develop a data platform that allow for flexible data storage and analytics
Data analysis of the telemetry from Ground and Space Assets to ensure reliable and efficient performance
Maintain configuration control of all assets and provide for the rollout of updated software and configuration

There’s been an increasing focus on big data in recent years, and Spire Global aims to lead the field in the biggest data of all - Earth Intelligence - with its suite of satellites collecting data from beneath the Earth’s surface to the edge of the atmosphere.

It identifies three main areas of use for its data - Aviation, Maritime, and Weather. Its capabilities in these fields include providing over 660M position reports each day for the aviation industry, building intelligent routing and tracking systems for maritime shipping, and supplying in-depth weather forecasting and climate impact analysis.

Beyond this, Spire Global's satellite system has countless other applications, such as real-time observation in active conflicts, and wildfire tracking. Operating in a rapidly developing market for space-based data, Spire continues to expand its satellite network and capaibilities as demand for global monitoring and environmental intelligence grows.
