- Strong engineering mindset applied to data — you care about architecture, reliability, maintainability, and production-quality systems, not just making things work once
- Solid technical foundations, including SQL, Python, modern cloud data systems, and ideally Databricks or the ability to ramp up very quickly
- Good judgment across the full data and AI lifecycle — from data modeling and pipelines to testing, governance, privacy, security, and deployment — understanding that great AI/ML work depends on strong foundations
- High ownership, curiosity, and generosity — you move problems forward, keep learning across disciplines, and enjoy raising the level of the people around you through collaboration, feedback, and shared standards
- Curiosity for new AI paradigms such as LLM-powered systems, agents, tool integration, and AI-assisted development, with the mindset of constantly finding ways to make systems and teams more effective
- Fluent in Spanish and English (Catalan is a plus)
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer, Platform & AI to help us build the next chapter of Innovamat’s data function
- This role will work very closely with the leadership of Product and Tech, and will play a key role in shaping the technical foundations that will support Innovamat’s data and AI capabilities in the coming years
- We do not believe in building large teams for the sake of it. We believe in building small teams of outstanding people, with high ownership, strong judgment, and the ambition to create something excellent. This role is a key part of that vision
- Our Data Team already combines Data Analysts and Data Engineers. What we are now looking for is someone who can raise the technical bar, strengthen the foundations of our platform, and help push the team towards the next frontier: ML and AI applied to real products and real decisions
- Our main bet for this journey is Databricks, and we want this role to be one of the key forces in making it the backbone of our future data and AI ecosystem
- Build and evolve our Databricks-first data platform, shaping robust pipelines, shared data assets, and the architectural foundations for analytics, operations, and AI across the company
- Own the full lifecycle of data products end to end — from ingestion and transformation to testing, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting — ensuring systems are reliable, maintainable, and truly production-ready
- Partner closely with Data, Product, Research, and business teams to turn real problems into strong technical solutions and enable fast, trustworthy decision-making
- Raise the engineering bar across the team through better architecture, code quality, CI/CD, observability, and shared standards — helping not only build great systems, but also make the people around you better
- Help lay the foundations for ML and AI applications that create real value, while driving strong practices in governance, privacy, security, and technical judgment
Our take
Despite its immense importance, the education space has been slow to evolve, with much of teaching still relying on knowledge-first, memory-based curricula. Innovamat sets out to change this, with a maths curriculum focused on collaboration, discussion, and investigation, delivered through the Innovamat App and its classroom management platform.
Innovamat's resources enable teachers to deliver sequenced sessions, running all the way from infant to secondary - all from one platform. The app provides self-adaptive practice and progress reports, tuned to the pace of each student, and the company also supplies complementary materials for hands-on learning. In addition, it also provides teacher training resources to ensure all staff are able to deliver the curriculum to their best ability.
With a presence established in Catalonia and Latin America, the company is now looking towards further geographical expansion, particularly in the US and Italy. Innovamat has raised impressive funding that will accelerate research and development, support this new expansion, and allow it to reach even more students, atop the 210,000 already learning through its curriculum.
