Who you are
- Experience designing and building scalable web applications and distributed systems
- Proficiency with Python
- 5-7 years of software engineering experience
- Strong sense of ownership with the ability / desire to own technical roadmaps and refine ambiguous problems
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional partners to create the best possible products
Desirable
- Service design and architecture experience, defining patterns and best practices for others to follow
- Experience with decoupling monolithic applications into distributed asynchronous services
- Proficiency with FastAPI (or similar frameworks) and Postgres (or similar relational databases)
- Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures
- Experience with FHIR
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Care Platform Operations team at Ro
- In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure backend services that directly support how Ro provides care to our patients
- You will be responsible for systems that enable efficient and high-quality patient <> provider communication, appointment scheduling and task management workflows
- These workflows empower our clinical and non-clinical team members to respond effectively to patient needs and allow Ro to scale our patient-centric healthcare model to millions of individuals seeking treatment
- You will design and implement new applications and enhance existing platform capabilities while contributing to the evolution of Ro’s technical architecture
- As a senior member of the team, you will help define and lead the technical roadmap, owning initiatives from ideation through design, implementation, and maintenance
- You will collaborate closely with product, design, and data teams, and have opportunities to partner with security, care operations, clinical, and legal experts to ensure solutions meet the highest standards of quality and compliance
- Design and build scalable, reliable, and resilient distributed services that power Ro’s end-to-end healthcare platform
- Operate as an owner within the team's domain and proactively assess and improve system performance and reliability
- Actively contribute to building the team’s architectural vision and technical roadmap
- Collaborate on code reviews and technical design documents to ensure the consistent application of best practices across relevant domains
- Apply critical thinking to understand problems, identify patterns, and propose solutions by considering multiple perspectives and approaches
- Actively participate in technical discussion forums such as internal guild meetings
- Work closely with product, design, data and other stakeholders to help us build the best possible experiences for our providers, pharmacists, and patients
Our take
Ro is a healthcare startup that connects patients directly to physicians, nurses, and pharmacists. The founders of Ro established the company because they felt that health insurance wasn’t working as it should, as the pooled cost of expensive treatments means that the price of individual doctor visits is inflated.
Ro’s primary care platform powers a personalized, end-to-end healthcare experience from diagnosis, to delivery of medication, to ongoing care. Instead of having to travel to a doctor’s office, Ro customers can access a video conference with a physician on-demand, from the comfort of their own home.
In order to tap into the global medical market, which is worth over $4 trillion, Ro raised $150 million at a valuation of $7 billion in 2022. It has expanded to more health areas, such as skincare and mental health, and launched an online pharmacy. Despite this, a substantial number of layoffs in spring 2022 indicated that Ro's accelerated growth had caused problems with its internal organization. Having now narrowed its focus and spending more on less, Ro has streamlined its operations and looks to continue on a steady upward trajectory.
