Role

Who you are

  • We expect you to be broadly experienced to be able to “see around corners”, to thrive in a fast-paced, self-managed engineering environment, and to be a collaborative, low-ego teammate who helps Scythe realize its big mission
  • Standing up and managing container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes for managing containerized applications at scale
  • Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible for provisioning and managing cloud resources
  • Scripting languages such as Python and Bash for automating tasks and infrastructure management
  • CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or ArgoCD for automating software delivery processes
  • Networking principles including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, Load Balancing, and Firewall configuration in cloud environments
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker
  • Security fundamentals and implementing secure cloud infrastructure

Desirable

  • Provisioned and managed cloud-based database services such as Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL, as well as NoSQL databases like DynamoDB, Cosmos DB, or Bigtable

What the job involves

  • We're looking for a highly knowledgeable and experienced Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our team. The desired candidate will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and improving the cloud infrastructure used at Scythe
  • You’ll work in concert with teammates from across the company to build a rich understanding of product needs and bring those ideas to life
  • Provision AWS assets and resources (S3 buckets, IAM policies, clusters, etc) using Terraform
  • Implement security policies and organize AWS IAM as our company grows
  • Monitor cloud infrastructure performance, reliability, and budget proactively
  • Be a source of expertise regarding best practices related to cloud infrastructure for CI, Customer Web, and Data Platform teams
  • Assess and implement any needed encryption on assets in the cloud
  • Assist teammates with third-party integration needs

Our take

Millions of off-road spaces, from lawns to vast public parks, need regular maintenance. Traditional mowers run on fossil fuels and require human operations, but Scythe is changing the game with intelligent, emissions-free robots. These fully fun electric mowers are designed to follow contours, navigate slopes, and automatically adjust cut patterns to keep grass looking pristine without the environmental cost.

Maintenance businesses can save thousands due to the reduced need for human involvement and the robot's efficient, all-electric motors. Scythe's unique "Robot-as-a-Servce" rental model charges by the acre mowed, offering affordable, sustainable solutions. Plus, its mowers are quieter - reducing noise by 20dB compared to legacy models - so no more complaints when mowing the lawn at 7am on a Sunday.

Commercial landscape contractors have long struggled to meet growing demand for staying sustainable, but Scythe is changing that with its in-demand M.52 mower. After successful funding, the company is scaling up its manufacturing process to meet demand and ensure the future of landscaping is greener, quieter, and more efficient.
