  • 5+ years related experience with at least 1 year in a corporate tax manager role
  • Experience preparing and reviewing Canadian and/or US corporate income tax returns
  • Experience preparing consolidated tax provisions and tax notes
  • Experience mentoring and reviewing work of junior team members
  • Up-to-date knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and industry trends in Canada and/or the USA with a focus on corporate income tax and indirect tax
  • Ability to adapt to changing tax laws and regulations and apply them effectively within the organization
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and superior attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with internal control frameworks and the ability to contribute to their design and maintenance

Desirable

  • Completion of, or enrolment in CPA Canada’s In-depth Tax Program or a Canadian or US Master of Taxation Program
  • Knowledge of tax accounting principles and financial statement tax note preparation under US GAAP
  • Understanding of transfer pricing principles and documentation requirements
  • Experience preparing and/or reviewing journal entries and financial statements
  • Public practice tax experience at a national or international firm

  • We’re expanding quickly and are seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to support our global tax compliance
  • You’ll be working with a team that values excellence and initiative
  • Manage Clio’s global corporate tax compliance, with a focus on Canada, the USA, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Australia. Review and/or prepare corporate income tax and information returns, ensuring accurate and timely compliance and filing in accordance with local tax regulations
  • Preparation and/or review of the consolidated income tax provision and financial statement tax notes in accordance with US GAAP, providing transparent and compliant tax disclosures
  • Support Clio’s global indirect tax compliance, with a focus on Canada, the USA, the European Union, the United Kingdom and Australia. Review indirect tax returns, ensuring compliance with local tax laws and regulations
  • Manage the reconciliation of general ledger accounts and journal entries related to taxes, ensuring accurate recording of tax transactions
  • Serve as a main point of contact for external tax advisors, government auditors, and financial auditors regarding taxation matters. Coordinate and respond to inquiries, manage tax audits, and facilitate a smooth relationship with external stakeholders
  • Provide tax advice to the business on the tax implications of strategic and operational decisions, assisting with the evaluation of potential tax risks and opportunities
  • Support the company's global Scientific Research & Development (R&D) tax credit application processes, collaborating with external advisors and internal engineering teams to maximize R&D tax incentives
  • Participate in the design and maintenance of Clio’s global transfer pricing regime. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with transfer pricing regulations and guidelines, including documentation and pricing analysis
  • Participate in Clio’s global indirect tax recovery initiatives, identifying opportunities to recover overpaid taxes and implementing effective processes to capture indirect tax refunds
  • Prepare documentation, memos, and support materials to substantiate Clio’s tax positions and amounts filed, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations
  • Conduct tax research and stay updated on changes in tax laws, regulations, and rulings that may impact the company's tax positions and compliance requirements
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of tax planning strategies to optimize the company's overall tax position, including identifying tax planning opportunities and monitoring tax legislation changes
  • Participate in the design and maintenance of internal controls over the income and indirect tax processes, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures
  • Participate in process improvement and change management projects, utilizing your expertise in taxation requirements. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to implement efficient tax processes, facilitate effective communication, and provide training on tax compliance procedures
  • Participate in the mentorship and training of team members

Modern law firms increasingly manage their work digitally but the lack of a specialised remote solution means that workflows have become fragmented. This leads to legal practice managers having to juggle multiple software solutions across various devices.

Clio provides a legal practice management platform designed for law firms, allowing users to manage billing for legal aid cases, access and manage documents and store files across multiple devices. Whilst other startups are operating in this niche, Clio has uniquely focussed on synchronisation across remote devices and on a wide range of integrations, allowing the user to access information from other industry standard software such as Xero and Klyant from within a single interface.

Clio has raised a large amount of investment capital, most recently in a 2021 Series E round which saw the company attain unicorn status with a valuation exceeding $1 billion. This funding is being used to accelerate its product development, hire additional talent, and for expansion into new markets with a focus on the EMEA region, particularly the UK and Ireland.
