Role
Who you are
- Proven leadership in UX/UI within consumer-facing digital products, mobile apps, and multi-platform environments
- Experience scaling and evolving design teams, with a track record of mentoring and developing talent
- Deep expertise in design systems, ensuring high-quality, consistent experiences while partnering closely with engineering teams
- Strong strategic thinking, balancing high-level vision with the ability to guide execution through others
- A data-driven approach to UX/UI, leveraging user research and analytics to inform decision-making
- Ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, influencing and advocating for design at the leadership level
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, ensuring design thinking is embedded across the business
Desirable
- A background in high volume content platforms and/or marketplaces, with content discovery experience (incl. curation, personalisation, recommendations, advanced search and filtering)
- Experience in e-commerce, web/desktop and mobile
- Experience working with connected physical devices
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Head of UX/UI to join our team to lead and inspire our design team and craft innovative, user-centric experiences.You’ll drive the strategy, design, and execution of user experience, ensuring that Yoto’s products delight both kids and parents
- Define and drive Yoto’s UX/UI strategy, ensuring a cohesive vision across digital products, mobile apps, web, and physical devices
- Lead, mentor, and develop the UX/UI team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning
- Shape and scale Yoto’s design function, identifying skill gaps, structuring the team for success, and ensuring high performance
- Set clear priorities and align design initiatives with business goals, balancing user needs with commercial and technical considerations
- Partner with product, engineering, and data teams, ensuring user experience is embedded into the entire development lifecycle
- Champion user research and usability testing, ensuring insights drive data-led, user-centric design decisions
- Provide strategic oversight on design systems, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and scalability across all platforms
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusivity, embedding best practices to create intuitive experiences for diverse audiences
- Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies, guiding innovation to elevate Yoto’s design approach
- Foster strong cross-functional relationships, ensuring seamless collaboration between design, product, engineering, content, and marketing teams

Our take
A key development in the last 5 years has been a move towards screen-based kids entertainment like apps and streaming services. However, more recently there have been concerns that excessive screen time for children can be damaging to health and development. So, many consumers are looking for alternative products which will expose children to modernity without the drawbacks of many modern devices. This is the demand which Yoto is setting out to capitalise on.
Yoto's product - a screen-free audio platform - enables children to access features such as audiobooks, podcasts, and soundscapes via physical cards inserted into the device. The Yoto Player has received considerable early praise from consumers and from investors also, who granted Yoto considerable funding.
Perhaps the most difficult challenge for a business operating in the highly competitive children's toys market is keeping its product current. However, Yoto's software is fully customisable, meaning that alongside its library of content, parents can add their own audio files to the device to suit the interests of their children. This imbibes Yoto with a customisability that gives it an edge, especially as children's tastes change with age.
