What the job involves
- We're looking to hire an Associate Recruiter to manage high-volume end to end recruiting processes for our Operations team
- Own end to end recruiting process for various Operations roles at Whatnot
- Identify talented candidates. You'll partner with recruiting managers, senior recruiters and hiring managers to identify a high caliber of candidates
- Emphasize diversity and inclusivity. You'll look for traditional and non-traditional methods to increase the likelihood we can bring new perspectives to the team
- Screen candidates. You'll serve as the filter of the top of the funnel to maximize the hiring team’s time and focus on interviewing the best candidates
- Successfully own high volume recruiting for Customer Experience, Trust & Safety, and Fraud roles
- Assist with developing job posts, hiring plans, and rubrics when needed. You'll work with the Recruiting Manager, Business and hiring manager to tighten up job descriptions, screening rubrics, and manage the hiring process along the way
- Iterate on candidate feedback. You'll smooth rough edges in the hiring process by iterating on feedback from candidates or other signals
- Nurture relationships with individuals and groups. You'll help build personal relationships through introductions, references, or by facilitating participation with community groups
Our take
The collectible toy market is large, and Whatnot has built a unique social platform that enables sellers to use livestreams to showcase their products and reach more buyers. The company’s focus is on collectible toys, some of which are rare and can cost thousands of dollars, and has also expanded to sports cards.
The idea of Whatnot was led by buyer trends. Instagram's live feature became a popular place for selling toys and trading cards, but of course was not set up to facilitate bidding or handling payments after a sale occurs. Whatnot combines live showcasing with follow-up sale capabilities, thus serving the community in a more novel way than established collectibles market players such as eBay.
The company has grown fast. It was established in 2019 and has already expanded from its original category - Funko Pop figurines - to Pokemon cards, pins, sports cards, and many more. There is still plenty of scope for expanding into new categories, as the company aims to establish itself as the go-to for this large niche, which will be facilitated by the strong levels of funding that Whatnot has raised.
