Role
Who you are
- Deep systems engineer with 7+ years experience in drivers or low-level systems programming
- Strong proficiency in C and C++ with solid understanding of hardware-software interfaces
- Familiar with Linux kernel concepts and how kernel and user-space components interact
- Experience working with external customers or partners to define and support driver or hardware interfaces
- Exposure to safety-critical systems, automotive platforms, or Functional Safety standards such as ISO 26262 is a strong plus
What the job involves
- We are seeking s Software Driver Developer to create reference drivers for our AI-IP in a reference system. You will also support our AI-IP customer optimizing our reference driver into our customer specific systems
- This role is hybrid, based out of Toronto, ON

- Design and evolve the driver layer that provides high-performance APIs for Tenstorrent devices
- Define driver interfaces and specifications that enable the broader software stack to run across internal and third-party hardware
- Collaborate with kernel and hardware teams to ensure efficient cross-layer design and performance
- Drive performance engineering efforts, including benchmarking, profiling, and optimization of APIs
- Support external integrations by defining hardware-software boundaries and enabling reliable deployment in customer environments, including safety-critical use cases where applicable
- What You Will Learn:
- How user-mode and kernel-level drivers are designed for high-performance AI hardware
- How hardware-software interfaces are defined to support scalable and portable systems
- How performance is optimized across memory, compute, and communication layers
- How third-party hardware integrations are enabled through well-defined driver and interface layers
- How safety and reliability requirements influence modern driver architecture, including in automotive and mission-critical systems
Our take
Tenstorrent is a US- and Canada-based semiconductor startup specializing in processors for AI workloads. Rather than building gneral-purpose CPUs or GPus, the company develops custom chips and sofrware optimized for running moder AI models. As demand for AI accelerates, and as a global chip shortage reshapes the semiconductor industry, these trends have become strong tailwinds for Tenstorrent.
The company’s unique approach is to build for this future software, which it believes will be written at a higher level. Combining this with conditional computing, Tenstorrent supports a scalable distributed network approach that is analogous to a human brain.
While the market for specialized AI hardware is destined to be gigantic, the company has to compete with a plethora of hopeful startups (as well as major tech companies like NVIDIA and Qualcomm). That said, Tenstorrent boasts an excellent trajectory so far, with its latest moves including unveiling its high-end Wormhole AI processors, and a partnership with LG which will see the development of chips for "Affectionate Intelligence".
