Role
Who you are
- You enjoy starting with the user and working backward to the solution, and are excited to work on a business with multiple stakeholders and unique design challenges
- Product design: You have 4-7+ years experience working in UX, UI, HCI or other product design related roles, and ideally in startups. You have a strong understanding of the full product development lifecycle
- User journey design: Experience with developing complex and iterative B2C user journeys and experiences, conducting experimentation. Experience building products from 0 → 1
- User research: Strong ability to understand and empathize with end users, translating those learnings into actionable insights. Experience building UX research programs/processes, a plus
- Influence: You effectively partner and collaborate with both product managers and engineers to ship products, even without formal authority
- Clear communicator: You are an excellent writer (memos, slides) and excel at making the complex simple to empower decision-making
- Analytically-minded: You have strong analytical skills and can blend quantitative data with qualitative insights to test hypotheses
What the job involves
- The mission of our Product team is to build products and features that empower both employers and workers on our platform
- We are information magnets and work closely with other teams to determine how we can move the needle for key metrics across our business
- In this role you will ensure a seamless product experience across the user lifecycle for workers and employers on our platform
- You will be involved in every step of the product development journey and have the opportunity to shape the process from the ground up
- You will solve problems with a user-first approach blending service design, visual design, interaction design, user research, and prototyping across both our employer platform and worker app experiences
- Own the user experience for both employers and workers on our platform. Design and develop high quality wireframes, mockups, user flows and prototypes with an eye towards accessibility
- Consistently deliver compelling design solutions with an appropriate balance of viability, functionality, and delight
- Effectively articulate your thought process and strategic rationale to help stakeholders understand and align on design decisions
- Contribute to and maintain Shiftsmart’s design system, information architecture, and design processes to ensure consistency and quality throughout the product
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketplace, Customer, Growth and other teams as relevant to actively define the product strategy
- Conduct user research to deeply understand our customers, generating new product ideas and refining solutions

Shiftsmart’s network of over 1.2 million workers serves big-name enterprises like Google, HP, Apple, and Levi’s, and is part of a growing industry of staffing solutions for hourly workers that have been seeing big VC investments over recent years. Driven by the gig economy becoming more normalized and demand for flexible hours increasing, Shiftsmart saw its revenue increase by nearly 400%, and they put this success down to a competitively unique business model that sees more control being put in the hands of workers and employers alike. They have now done work in over 57 countries, and are operating tens of thousands of shifts each week.
Some user feedback suggests the company still has some kinks to iron out on their platform, with multiple complaints about delayed or missing payments. But with thousands of successful, efficient job placements found over the last few years, Shiftsmart are making strides in an area that looks set to remain in high demand.
