Who you are
- We need someone who enjoys diving into existing systems, designing new systems, and solving customer problems
- We’re seeking someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, is curious and interested in learning, brings strong communication and teamwork skills, and helps others grow by sharing their expertise and encouragement
- Experience: 5-7+ years of professional experience building and operating distributed systems
- Full Stack Expertise: A backend-focused engineer with a workable knowledge of frontend development. We value versatility and enthusiasm for enhancing user experience, API design, and system architecture.
- Code Quality: Proficiency in writing functional code that’s easily readable, testable, and maintainable
- Tools & Languages: Our team works primarily in Golang with some Clojure. Experience in Golang is ideal, but having worked in any production backend language is fine. The principles are more important than the language details. For persistence, we work with Postgres primarily, though you might also find yourself working with MongoDB, Redis and S3. This team is primarily backend, but any frontend work will be in Typescript/React. Our messaging backbone is built on RabbitMQ. Experience with any event-driven system is ideal.
- Adaptability: We try to be agile - ship frequently, learn, and iterate. This means we can change course, quickly and sometimes frequently. You'll need to be comfortable with ambiguity because we're learning as we go, on purpose

What the job involves
- CircleCI is looking for an experienced Fullstack Engineer to help us launch a new team focused on Notifications
- The Notifications team will be shaping the future of how we deliver information to customers
- You’ll be part of charting a new path and defining a domain while solving a targeted set of customer problems
- We care about delivering information from the basic work status level to data that can help our customers make informed decisions
- While some of what we do will be that exciting green field, some of it will also be navigating existing notification systems and determining their future
- As a team member, you’ll help address important customer problems and work with cool people!
- Design & Build: Develop new features, simplify existing services and scale our systems as we rapidly grow and evolve
- Write Code: Produce sustainable, testable, high-quality, and high-performance code that you can be proud of
- Support and Maintain: Debug and support microservices in a complex distributed system
- Cultivate Observability: Foster a culture of monitoring and observability by using operational data to help your team increase the stability, performance, and usage of our systems
- Collaborate and Innovate: Partner with members of a multi-functional team to dive deep into business problems, explore creative solutions, weigh design tradeoffs, craft effective user stories, and prioritize tasks to deliver maximum value in a balanced and incremental way

CircleCI specifically helps automate all the steps that occur between the time developers make changes to the code and when the application gets in front of the customer. The company has a strong tailwind from this macro trend and their product is loved by engineers, putting them in a strong place to build a strong business.
Services in the sector have grown constricted and cost-heavy, but in 2022, CircleCI debuted a free tier service for engineering teams in a move away from this. By offering flexibility across an increased number of major platforms, including Docker, Windows, and MacOS, the company works towards its ultimate aim to empower technology-driven organisations.
