Role
Who you are
- 1-3 years’ experience in UI design and implementation
- Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Some experience working with Next.js or other React web application frameworks
- Fluency with wireframing and prototyping, using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, etc
- Excellent visual design skills and strong grasp of design principles, you will also be enthusiastic about applying this talent in a broad range of scenarios across the business
- Experience with UX concepts and are comfortable conducting user research and feature testing with technical teams/users
- Ambition to drive workstreams independently, working with a wide range of stakeholders
- Interest in science, deep-tech and its ability to impact the world
- Appreciation of early stage start-ups and the growth opportunity
What the job involves
- To accelerate our material discovery process we are looking for a talented UI developer to support our team of scientist better leverage our platform in making ground-breaking scientific discoveries
- You will play a pivotal role in the business, driving the implementation of design thinking, new feature development as well as the look and feel of the company brand
- You will report into our full-stack developer and platform lead, whilst working closely with our CEO, CTO and Chief Scientist in building the interfaces for a powerful platform
- Implement design roadmap (established by consulting product designer)
- Maintain the continuous development of new features
- Creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and site maps to communicate interaction and design ideas effectively
- Long-term assessment of user experience, gathering feedback from our team of scientist and scientific developers to iteratively improve platform functionality
- Own implementation of marketing material re-design, including website and other company materials
- This is a unique opportunity for an individual from a design background to join a company on the forefront of scientific discoveries

Our take
Achieving net-zero goals will be impossible without advances in material technology to drive electrification and lower the costs of renewable energy. Previously discovered advanced materials, such as titanium, have revolutionised the aviation, transport, medical and aviation industries, but the environmental, economic, and social costs involved in many equally powerful breakthroughs mean that many next-generation materials are not able to be utilised.
Material Nexus aims to accelerate the change to net-zero materials, providing an AI model that greatly reduces the need for physical testing to discover new materials. This allows businesses to develop advanced materials without the years of research typically involved in making a new material ecologically and economically viable for the market.
With seed funding secured, the company has begun scaling its R&D and marketing efforts. In the longer term, Material Nexus aims to build a facility where it can sustainably produce the materials it discovers and is eyeing an eventual expansion to the USA. Going forward, its focus on net-zero materials is certain to be welcomed by materials designers and manufacturers looking to play their part in the fight against climate change.
