Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field
- 3+ years of work professional work experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Demonstrated experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages in a production-level environment, with a strong preference for Python
- Familiarity with AI/ML pipelines and the lifecycle of ML model development and deployment
- Strong communication skills, particularly on complex technical topics
- Experience in building or optimizing AI/ML projects is highly valued
What the job involves
- As a Forward-Deployed Engineer at Baseten, you will partner with our customers to understand their problems and engineer ML solutions using Baseten’s open-source Truss system
- This role provides a unique front-row view into the opportunities and challenges facing companies implementing ML and AI solutions at scale
- This role can be particularly relevant for entrepreneurial individuals who desire to apply that experience in a highly technical role
- Develop and maintain software systems using one or more general-purpose programming languages in a production-level environment, with a preference for Python due to its relevance in ML projects
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and implement AI/ML pipelines, including the lifecycle of ML model development and deployment
- Communicate effectively on complex technical topics, ensuring clarity and understanding across different stakeholders
- Optimize and enhance AI/ML projects, contributing to the continuous improvement of our technical stack
- Own products and projects end-to-end, functioning as both an engineer and a project manager, with a focus on user empathy, project specification, and end-to-end execution
- Navigate ambiguity and exercise good judgment on tradeoffs and tools needed to solve problems, avoiding unnecessary complexity
- Demonstrate pride, ownership, and accountability for your work, expecting the same from your teammates
Our take
As with its mathematical namesake, Baseten focuses on simplifying the complex. The San Francisco startup focuses on simplifying the integration of artificial intelligence into businesses. The tools that Baseten built demolish the need for businesses to hire specialised engineers, utilising the huge strides in artificial intelligence that we’ve seen in the last few years without adding workload to businesses.
With serious funding, Baseten plans to use its investment to expand its engineering and go-to-market teams. This is part of its focus on helping companies implement the tools that they have at their disposal, a long-overlooked aspect of machine learning that many businesses have been eager to champion, but uncertain on how to actually use.
Simplifying the complex world of artificial intelligence for business is no mean feat but the three founders, who met whilst working as engineers at Gumroad, have a lot of experience in how to navigate this gap in the market.
