Role
Who you are
- Proven experience building and scaling backend systems in Node.js, ideally for complex or high-traffic applications
- Strong understanding of TypeScript or JavaScript
- Experience building robust RESTful APIs
- Relational database design and SQL programming skills (SQLite, PostgreSQL)
- Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, Jasmine, Cypress, etc
- You’re curious and you love learning new stuff
- You believe in continuous learning, value feedback, and enjoy working with others to create a positive team environment
Desirable
- Experience with cloud computing (Docker, Kubernetes) and an understanding of compilers/parsers
- Experience building microservices
- Experience with front-end frameworks such as Vue.js or React
- Interest in open source
What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer for the PayDay team at n8n, you will focus on building out n8n for larger teams, namely the “Enterprise” use case and the paid features those users need
- Features the team owns are for example advanced permissions, part of the core execution logic of our workflow and the log streaming feature
- Work mainly on the backend but happy to jump on frontend tasks when needed
- Support the test-driven development of the software stack (e.g. code reviews, unit tests, CI) and documentation
- Work closely with the engineering team, and cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and developer advocates, along with the founder and senior management to help drive further growth of the company

A recent trend in IT has been an increased effort to streamline workflows by improving integration between the multiple apps which people use. n8n was founded so that users can find a balance between building systems and having autonomy in their work whilst saving time through the rapid development of complex workflows.
n8n is certainly not the first to pick up on this trend - competition includes startups like Zapier, RapidAPI, and Tray.io- but n8n believes that its product is a cut above the rest of the market, offering more flexibility and robustness at a reduced price. The company also has the leading low-code automation tool in this field.
n8n's long-term approach to the market is set to be based on two key strategies, focusing efforts on its flagship platform, ensuring that it stays ahead of competition in meet the demand for its integration services whilst also pushing towards diversification. It plans to launch a version of its platform under a SaaS subscription model. n8n also looks to introduce network of consulting, support and integration services, and if the company can execute this joint approach well, it will be well-set to continue pushing ahead in the market.
