Role

Who you are

  • Experience building and maintaining large scale systems. Billing systems experience is a plus
  • 7+ years of experience building and maintaining large-scale, mission critical, distributed systems
  • Deep understanding of the Java language, the JVM, and its ecosystem
  • Experience using non-relational (e.g., MongoDB) or relational databases at scale
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Equally comfortable communicating and collaborating with engineering leaders, technical experts and non-technical stakeholders across business units

What the job involves

  • As MongoDB's Cloud business grows, so does its reliance on the Cloud Billing Platform team. This team has the mission critical task of metering and billing for billions of dollars of usage in our ever-increasing suite of products
  • It's a constantly evolving technical challenge to meet the demanding needs of the business as our customer base expands rapidly across the globe
  • Our talented engineers are technically proficient, obsessed with code quality, rigorous about testing and correctness, and skilled at communicating with stakeholders representing many different personas within the company
  • Here's a sampling of the teams’ responsibilities:
  • Collect and aggregate metering data from a variety of internal and external services
  • Calculate and generate daily customer bills
  • Continuously improve the customer experience
  • Continuously improve and scale our backend systems
  • Ingest and aggregate detailed usage data from the major Cloud providers (AWS, Azure and Google Cloud)
  • Integrate with our internal data lake to support the business analytics needs of the Finance team
  • Integrate with internal business systems to support the Sales, Marketing, and Accounting teams
  • In this role, you will:
  • Independently design and deliver projects
  • Participating in product and architecture discussions
  • Contribute to the codebase through projects and conducting code reviews
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve our systems, tools and processes
  • Mentoring junior engineers
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful work environment according to MongoDB's Core Values
  • In three months, you'll be familiar with our developer tools and the existing features and projects on the team
  • In six months, you'll be contributing to our ongoing projects and helping plan our future work
  • In twelve months, you’ll be hitting your stride contributing to our roadmap and leading the team's key projects

Our take

MongoDB is an open-source, cross-platform, document-oriented database system. It stores data as JSON-like documents and is written in C++, Go, JavaScript and Python.

Essentially, the company develops tools and blueprints to help businesses and organisations modernise their legacy applications, migrating them to the MongoDB database and the MongoDB Atlas cloud database. With this initiative, MongoDB is particularly taking aim at Oracle customers with ageing applications running on the Oracle relational database system.

Since its release, MongoDB has become one of the most popularly used NoSQL database systems due to its ease of use and efficiency. It is also the fastest-growing database ecosystem, and boasts hundreds of millions of downloads. Recently, the company announced a partnership with Patronus AI, an automated evaluation and security platform, through which it will bring automated LLM evaluation and testing capabilities to enterprise customers.
