Who you are
- Some hands-on experience writing backend code — ideally in TypeScript, or keen to learn it

What the job involves
- Reporting to: Software Engineering Manager
- You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a large team of both data-led and product focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale
- As a collective we strive for engineering greatness and by ensuring best practices across the board of the community
- More specifically, you’ll be working on Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform
- This is a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally
- This platform has been built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers
- Our tech stack is very fluid, but broadly you can find yourself working with:
- Typescript, Node JS, Terraform, Gitactions, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Kafka, GraphQL
- Build and maintain backend services using modern technologies like TypeScript and Node.js
- Learn to work with event-driven systems and cloud platforms (especially AWS)
- Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and designers to develop customer-facing features
- Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews to grow your technical skills
- Contribute to the ongoing development of services and systems, with support from your team
- Work with databases (SQL or NoSQL) to manage and retrieve data
- Take part in team discussions, stand-ups, and planning sessions to understand how we build at scale
- Ask questions, seek feedback, and share what you’re learning to support a positive team environment
Application process
- Initial call with our Talent Acquisition team (30 minutes)
- This short call is designed to tell you more about Kaluza and the specific team you’ll be joining, as well as to ensure that the role is the right fit for you
- First stage interview (1 hour minutes)
- This interview will be with a hiring manager from one of our engineering teams, this interview will cover both mindset and technical questions. We will also incorporate a 15 coding exercise, so have your screen ready to do some coding
- Final Interview Loop (2 hours)
- Two hours sounds like a long time, but we don’t expect all of these to be completed across one day, but we can support that if you so wish, the three sessions cover the following:
- Behavioural - We use behavioural interviews to understand how you collaborate, solve problems, and build value for customers through real-world examples
- Pairing - Our pairing interview focuses on problem-solving, clean code, and real-time collaboration — you'll work through a practical task with one of our engineers

More and more energy retailers are looking to move further toward digitisation and reap the benefits of modern technology in an increasingly connected world. But many are struggling with the transition, held back by legacy operating systems which slow them down, drain resources, and hamper innovation.

An ecosystem of platforms whose services range from energy billing to smart electric vehicle charging, Its real-time cloud platforms transform supplier operations, reducing the cost to serve and boosting customer engagement. Essentially, its platform is aimed at helping businesses streamline their operations, saving them time, effort, and money which can be better invested elsewhere.
Kaluza is riding the momentum of a growing desire for sustainable business and services. Its program relating to electric car charging, for example, will be able to capitalise on huge new demand in that sector - over 100,000 electric cars are already on the roads in the UK, and Bloomberg New Energy Finance has predicted that electric cars will account for over 50% of new global car sales by 2040. As the globe moves further towards sustainable use of energy in the coming years, Kaluza could be very well positioned to capitalise.
