Role
Who you are
- As a Senior Applied NLP Engineer, you'll need to bring a special set of skills and experiences to excel
- Solid experience using Python, especially for scripting
- Hands-on experience in NLP and Data Science, including model fine-tuning, data preprocessing, and other data science tasks
- Strong familiarity with current AI research and large language models
- Problem-Solving: An ability to think on your feet, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide creative solutions is crucial. You should be a resourceful, and pragmatic problem-solver
- Customer-Centric Approach: You should have excellent customer relationship skills and understand the importance of ensuring our clients are happy and successful
- This involves having experience in working and communicating effectively with external clients. Furthermore, you should be adept at tailoring your communication style to cater to the unique needs of various clients, including both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Consultative Skills: Being able to guide clients in their AI product journey, assisting with the technical setup of our product, and consulting on feature development will be part of your role
Desirable
- Familiarity with our open-source framework Haystack, PyTorch, or HuggingFace
- Experience in designing and implementing information retrieval systems using embeddings (e.g., MiniLM), vector stores (e.g., Faiss, PineCone, Vespa), or similarity match & ranking techniques
- Familiarity with search databases such as OpenSearch and ElasticSearch
What the job involves
- In this role, you'll be at the heart of our Solution Engineering team, contributing to a wide range of responsibilities
- Sales and Sales Engineering Support: Prepare and conduct product demos and assist with 2-week prototypes for potential clients
- NLP Engineering: Consult with existing clients on their product journey, set up our product within their organization, develop new product features (i.e. Haystack nodes), and provide technical services like model fine-tuning
- Customer Support: Be the point of contact for clients facing technical issues, helping them resolve problems and reporting bugs to our development team
- Customer Success: Ensure client satisfaction and success by providing input on contract design and upsell opportunities, and making sure clients are thriving with our product
- Product Enhancement: Provide valuable insights and feedback from clients to drive the continuous improvement of our platform
Our take
Natural Language Processing (NLP) is at the core of many modern enterprise data processing workflows, from complex data processes to customer service chatbots. However, NLP systems are not one-size-fits-all, and the development and deployment of bespoke NLP systems require the niche and expensive help of programmers with expertise in machine learning and semantic syntax.
Deepset provides an open-source API-driven framework called Haystack for the quick and efficient development of production-ready NLP systems. The company's goal is to make modern NLP as easy as possible to apply in a practical and scalable way, and states major use cases of its API for automated data analysis, customer satisfaction, fraud monitoring, and regulatory actions.
Whilst NLP has been implemented by many enterprises such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft, options for companies without dedicated AI experts have been limited, making Deepset's open-source approach highly beneficial to many industries. Lately, the company has introduced custom AI agent solution architecture, which will enable companies to deploy AI agents across cloud and on-premise environments.
