Who you are
- The ideal candidate will be an active CPA with exceptional analytic, management, communication and technology skills. The role will report into the Assistant Controller
- The ideal candidate is comfortable in a dynamic environment, will bring energy and passion and will not be afraid to roll up their sleeves to tackle challenging assignments. This is a full-time position located in our New York City office
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field. CPA certification required
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including public company experience
- Strong, in-depth knowledge of ASC 606 rules with a focus on advertising industry
- Proven experience managing and leading accounting teams in a dynamic fast-paced environment
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the production accounting process, experience with budgets and cost reports
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to think outside the box, comfortable with ambiguity and providing suggestions and guidance
- Excellent organization skills and superior attention to detail
- Self-starter, independently motivated with a proactive approach and the ability to motivate and inspire others
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Excel required, Netsuite a plus
What the job involves
- BuzzFeed is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Director of Accounting to join our team.
- The Director of Accounting will oversee revenue, accounts receivable, accounts payable, travel and entertainment (T&E), and production accounting teams.
- Oversee accounting operations including revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, T&E, and production accounting
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes including the accurate and timely reporting of financials in compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
- Utilize multiple systems including Netsuite, Concur, Smart Accounting, Workday, Boostr
- Oversee customer collections, assist in cash management by forecasting receipt expectations and cash requirements
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure efficiency and accuracy
- Lead and mentor multiple teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders in an understandable manner
- Identify and resolve accounting issues, ensuring effective problem-solving with a continuous process-improvement mindset
- Collaborate with external auditors
- Maintain internal controls in compliance with SOX
