Who you are
- You have 4-6+ years of product design experience, ideally across marketplace, platform, or strong B2C products
- You're genuinely excited about using AI to move faster — in prototyping, in iteration, in getting ideas in front of people sooner — without letting it flatten your craft or replace your thinking
- You're a confident product thinker who engages with problems before reaching for solutions, and works with your PM rather than downstream of them
- You present design decisions with clarity and rationale — what you considered, what you ruled out, and why
- You have a portfolio that shows both craft rigour and systemic thinking — visual language work alongside complex UX problem-solving
- You care about the domain; you don't need a background in care, but you need to take it seriously
- You want ownership and aren't waiting to be told what to do

What the job involves
- Department: Design, reporting to Head of Design
- Contract Length: Three months
- We're looking for a Freelance Senior Product Designer for a 3-month contract to own the design experience across our Marketplace product — the end-to-end journey families take when searching, comparing, and finding care for a loved one. It's a high-stakes, emotionally complex experience, and design is one of the primary ways we earn trust at every step of it
- You'll work closely with your Product Manager and Engineering lead as a genuine co-creator — shaping problem definition, not just executing briefs. We need someone who can hit the ground running, bring strong craft and sharp product instinct, and make a meaningful impact in a short window
- Own the end-to-end design quality of Marketplace — search, results, listings, comparison, and enquiry flows
- Partner with your PM from problem inception; shape briefs, challenge assumptions, and bring evidence to product decisions
- Work across a high-stakes domain where accessibility, trust signals, information hierarchy, and emotional context are all live design problems
- Contribute to the design system with patterns and components that scale beyond your own work stream

- Families searching for care are making one of the hardest decisions of their lives — often under time pressure, with limited information, and high emotional stakes. How do you design an experience that earns trust at every step?
- The Marketplace is a complex, multi-state product. Search, results, listings, comparison, enquiry — each with their own UX challenges. How do you hold quality across all of it without losing coherence?
- Information hierarchy is genuinely hard here. Care home profiles contain a huge amount of data — pricing, availability, room types, reviews, accreditations. What do families actually need to see, and when?
- We're an AI-native team. How do you use AI tooling to prototype and iterate faster, without it flattening your craft or replacing your thinking?
- We're a small design team. How do you contribute patterns and components that scale beyond your own workstream and raise the bar for the whole product?

- Behavioural Interview: If you are not successful after this stage, you'll receive constructive feedback via email and be offered a debrief call with our Talent Lead
- Final Interview: For final-stage candidates who are not offered the role, we will provide your feedback live via a phone call

Choosing a care home is often a hugely daunting, complex, and expensive process, coming at a time that's already stressful enough. What's more, the UK's ageing population is growing at an increasing rate, putting more strain on social care than ever before. The result is that 44% of care seekers often ultimately regret their choice of care home, something that has had increasing attention since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lottie aims to address this in part by simplifying the process of finding the perfect care home for every individual's specific needs. Its online marketplace gives users all the tools to select and compare the UK's best-performing care homes, taking into account CQC reports, facilities, treatment methods, and location.
Having received investment, Lottie aims to continue its growth to reshape the future of the care industry. It is doing so with a strong emphasis on data and real-time information, collecting datasets that will be vital not just to its business operations, but potentially to the UK government and healthcare policy too.
