- B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
- 5+ years working with a cloud infrastructure platform (GCP, AWS, Azure)
- Basic understanding/knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- 7+ years working in a Linux development environment
- Proficiency in Python (3.x) or similar language (5+ years experience)
- Production experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools and technologies
- Deep knowledge of containerization and related technologies
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes and/or cluster management systems
- Experience with event-driven systems and related tech (RabbitMQ, Kafka, etc.)
- Software development experience outside of DevOps/Infrastructure
- Demonstrated track-record of strong collaboration and cross-functional work
- Firm understanding of distributed systems + underlying technology and algorithms
- Experience in a production software development environment (version control, automated testing, build tools)
- Experience with Terraform provisioning infrastructure
- Experience with Ansible configuring infrastructure
- Production experience with Kubernetes (Managed Kubernetes, Helm, kubectl, etc.)
- Experience working in/with robotics and/or automation technology
What the job involves
- We're looking for a seasoned Cloud DevOps Engineer to help us launch an array of cloud-based data ingestion, processing, storage, and analytics platforms operating on petabyte-scale data gathered (24/7) from our robotic systems in-the-field, across the globe
- You will work with a team of best-in-class software engineers and provide the expertise + hands-on development to automate the creation of cloud infrastructure (on GCP) necessary to power the data platform, including handling the necessary virtual networking required to ensure everything can securely communicate with internal, and external traffic
- Deploy systems ranging from microservices, database clusters, and message brokers via IaC (Infrastructure-as-Code) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes
- Design + manage deployments of popular open-source systems such as Postgres, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, FastAPI, NextJS, and others
- Architect + configure virtual networking in order to facilitate secure communication between internal platform components/systems and external traffic between trusted sources
- Troubleshoot, build, and push containers using technologies such as Docker
- Deploy resources and containerized workloads using container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes
- If remote, be available to communicate roughly during EST hours
- Hybrid working arrangement determined by you (no minimums and/or specific days)
- Open to fully-remote for highly qualified candidates with demonstrated track records
Our take
The growing eCommerce industry is leading to a rise in order fulfillment centers that require staff to pick and pack items for delivery. However, high staff costs and decreases in staffing capacity make it difficult for demands to be met at an affordable price.
Righthand Robotics designs robots for eCommerce order fulfillment centers, using AI-driven intelligent grippers and computer vision to complete the end-to-end picking and packing process. The robotics can be managed by a software platform called RightPick which is configurable to work with direct-to-consumer, click and collect, BOPIS, or distribution to physical stores.
Whilst the company will face the challenge of robotics becoming increasingly prevalent in order fulfillment centers, it has managed to stand out with its focus on AI-driven computer vision and its flexible approach to delivery model configuration. Through its technology, the company claims that it can help clients meet any scale of demand with consistency, whilst helping them to maintain flexible infrastructure at an affordable price.
