Who you are
- 8+ years in software engineering, data engineering, or platform engineering/infra
- 5+ years of experience with Python
- 7+ Experience with Public Cloud (AWS, GCP, etc.)
- 5+ years of experience deploying and managing software configuration, build, and deployment processes (CI/CD pipelines) and associated tools
- 1+ years of experience with building production-ready, AI-powered products at scale to include hands-on experience with foundational AI models (OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock), orchestration and safety frameworks (Langchain, Llamaindex), and vector databases (Pinecone, MongoDB, Milvus)
- Experience collaborating with Data Engineering teams to build scalable data pipelines
- Strong and effective communicator

- Familiarity with Typescript
- Experience working in Healthcare or other regulated environments
- Familiarity with even-driven architectures
- Experience contributing to early-stage team growth (0 → 1)
What the job involves
- As an AI Engineer at Rula, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of AI-assisted therapy by designing, deploying, and scaling generative AI solutions that directly impact patient care
- This role is highly cross-functional—you’ll collaborate closely with teams across Product, Data Engineering,, and Application Engineering, to integrate cutting-edge AI into our platform in ways that are ethical, reliable, and impactful
- In this role, you will own the full lifecycle of GenAI solutions: from prototyping and building scalable data pipelines, to developing and testing and ensuring the solutions meet Rula’s high quality standard, to deploying production-ready GenAI solutions and monitoring their performance
- Success in this role means balancing innovation with operational excellence—experimenting with new approaches while ensuring deployed solutions are robust, cost-effective, and compliant with privacy and regulatory standards in mental health
- Initially, you’ll jump into the role building early prototypes that work towards delivering AI features into production
- Over time, you’ll expand the impact of AI across the organization by creating reusable frameworks, optimizing performance, and identifying new opportunities to enhance both our platform and patient outcomes

More than half of adults in the US will be diagnosed with a mental illness during their lifetime, and yet inaccessibility of treatment remains a huge problem. That’s what Rula aims to solve, with its platform that matches users to therapists that are covered by their insurance.
The company, formerly known as Path, is partnered with a number of major health insurers, including UnitedHealthcare and Anthem, making it an accessible service for millions of Americans. It allows users to browse therapists almost instantly, with just a short questionnaire to fill in before their matches are shown.
Though the market for tech services offering mental health provision is an overstuffed one, with giants like BetterHelp as well as newer competitors, Rula's partnerships with insurers set it apart. The business has been steadily growing, and significantly bolstered its executive team in 2023. Its recent rebrand was designed to emphasise its vision to improve not only access to mental health care, but also clinical outcomes.
