Role
Who you are
- BA/BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar technical field
- 6 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages
- 4 years of experience with applying machine learning algorithms in natural language processing domains
- 1+ years of experience training LLMs (6B parameters and larger) such as NeoX, LLaMA, PaLM, etc. is considered a big plus
- Deep knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX
What the job involves
- We are seeking Staff and Principal level Machine Learning Engineers with extensive experience in researching, designing, and implementing Machine Learning systems. You will be at the forefront of building generative AI products and agentic frameworks that utilize a wide range of modern AI stacks, including LLMs, diffusion-based synthesis models, and many more
- Research and experiment with cutting-edge ML models and techniques to advance Inworld’s AI capabilities
- Develop production-scale infrastructure to train, evaluate, and serve ML models efficiently
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration

- Exploring the impact on quality and latency of using a new attention implementation algorithm within the LLM serving infrastructure
- Designing and implementing a high-level public API to enable developers to create new AI voices and use them at runtime
- Exploring various on-device matrix multiplication backends to optimize transformer-based speech recognition models for a specific device
Our take
Dialogue writing for video games has traditionally been a matter of branching conversations based on player input, but this is a time-consuming and complicated process. In modern virtual environments which can contain thousands of characters, the need to save on costs means that conversations with many characters can be shallow and repetitive. Inworld AI's solution allows for the creation of unique and flexible interactions for even the most minor characters, based on just a few descriptive sentences.
As a novel application of AI to the games industry Inworld has grown rapidly, closing a seed financing round in 2021 and releasing its first product before being selected to join the 2022 Disney Accelerator. While the functionality of AI characters in a major release has yet to be tested, early signs for the company have been promising and it has attracted a major hire in John Gaeta (of Matrix fame) as Chief Creative Officer.
Inworld AI has recently closed another major round of funding, which it will use for product development and hiring. While it has yet to announce a pricing structure for its product, it is already looking at applications outside gaming and the metaverse, aiming at entertainment more broadly, sales, marketing, and education as just a few possible areas for expansion.
