Who you are
- Solid understanding of software engineering, especially for distributed systems
- Solid product management experience leading productive, high-performing teams
- Basic knowledge of python programming language is a plus

- Mindset towards achieving results, and excellent prioritization skills balancing OSS Ray user and Anyscale customer requirements

What the job involves
- Anyscale is looking for a strong Product Manager to lead the Ray Core (Core Runtime) team, which includes both the open source Ray distributed computing framework, and proprietary features
- We are looking for candidates with experience working with a high performance engineering team
- As an open source project, Ray is about making general purpose distributed computing easy, and Ray Core is the fundamental architecture behind this “infinite laptop” mission
- The Ray Core team is responsible for developing this core distributed computing framework (with basic abstractions of Tasks, Actors, Objects) to support Ray developers, and other Ray libraries (e.g. Datasets, ML libraries)

- Our research papers on NSDI ‘21 and HotOS ‘21 describing the architectural vision of a Distributed Futures system
- Our paper Ray v2 Architecture which describes Ray Core system architecture
- In this position, you will guide the vision, strategy and execution with a high-performing team. This team is critical to everything that Anyscale and Ray achieve and will play a pivotal role in the success of the company
- Drive the strategy of the Anyscale Ray Core (or Core Runtime) group
- Drive the execution of Ray Core team’s key projects towards Ray 3.0 and beyond
- Communicate your work to a broader audience through talks, tutorials, and blog posts
- Work closely with our broader product team to enhance our Anyscale platform to be the best place to run Ray
- Leading the charge in the OSS community to optimize our footprint and user experience
- Collaborate with external teams building compute platforms on integrations with Ray Core
- Help us to build and shape a world-class company
Our take
AnyScale is a platform facilitating the development of distributed applications with high computing demands on its Ray platform. It answers an increasing requirement for higher-level tech strategies among companies which are incorporating AI and machine learning into their products, and a similarly broad and growing demand for easier access to cloud programming.
AnyScale launched its first commercial offering in 2021, and intends to continue developing products that will lower the skill and resource threshold for cloud programming. In 2023 it released Aviary, a project to simplify open-source large language model (LLM) deployment. What is promising, and lucrative, about its proposition is that it offers a general-use distributed system, this sidesteps the cumbersome process of stitching together disparate distributed systems, previously a requirement for novel applications. It is currently finding use in a range of applications such as supply chain, environmental restoration and retail by organisations including Amazon and Uber.
Anyscape has raised considerable funding led by Andreessen Horowitz and Addition. This is being used to scale its team and further develop the Ray platform. As the demand for AI apps rapidly increases, Anyscape is poised to disrupt a $13 trillion market.
