Role
Who you are
- At least 10 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on cloud and IoT development
- At least 3 years of experience in managing high performing teams of engineers
- Strong knowledge of cloud and IoT technologies (AWS, Twilio, etc)
- Experience working with highly scaled distributed systems
- Experience working with and supporting embedded products that are connected
- Excellent problem-solving skills and experience working with large-scale distributed systems
- Owner’s mindset with strong execution. Have the passion and drive to apply engineering principles to solve complex, vague and sometimes urgent business problems
- Experience in partnering with other leads from engineering, product, operations and compliance to craft roadmaps and measures of success
- Excellent communication and effective prioritization skills in working with competing priorities
- Excellent deliver results and a proven track record of shipping software
- Ideal candidates are curious and able to dive deep when the situation demands it, and it is also necessary to backfill gaps in your expertise so that the team has the technical support it needs to change the way we move about our favorite cities
What the job involves
- We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead our fast-paced IoT team
- As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will bring a breadth of experience that supports and grows the engineering muscle of a team taking on diverse technical challenges
- You will take an engineering-first approach, meaning continuous improvement, systems and structure over heroics, with an eye towards ever increasing reliability and ever lowering cost/risk of continuous innovation
- Grow and scale the team by attracting, hiring and retaining top talent
- Define the long-term technical roadmap and strategic vision, alongside key stakeholders
- Build foundational systems and platforms to accelerate product innovation
- Provide hands-on technical guidance and contributions to areas such as cloud infra, developer experience and data platforms
- Optimize and develop effective processes to ensure the right prioritization effective delivery against goals
- Collaborate with XFN and key stakeholders both directly and indirectly
- Contribute to shaping overall engineering culture at the company
Our take
In recent years, electric-powered mobility companies have attracted an extraordinary amount of interest and funding, in part due to rising eco-friendly sentiment, and in part because of the race to "find the next Uber". Lime is one such company, that has rapidly scaled across multiple geographies to be a key player in the fight for market leadership.
Lime, along with its competitors, has had to grapple with regulation in many of its target markets, but nonetheless has steadily increased its footprint. Since its launch, the company has facilitated millions of trips, making it one of the biggest companies of its kind. Interestingly, the CEO has stated that "cars are our true business rivals—not other scooter companies", suggesting that its biggest business challenge will be to get families to give up their second cars.
With a presence that spans an impressive number of regions - most recently Lime has begun operating in Qatar - the company has cemented itself in the micromobility market, and stands to profit from the increasing popularity of these types of services. Across 2022, a substantial increase in ridership enabled Lime to achieve a "full profitable year", with suggestions it will pursue an IPO in the near future.
