Role

Who you are

  • 10+ years experience in the application of strategic talent management aligned to achieving business outcomes
  • Experience in a line of business HR role (strategic HRBP), management consulting or chief of staff preferred
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing successful companywide/global succession and development programs
  • Possess a deep technical experience with Talent and Succession modules of Workday
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data to inform decision-making
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels of the organization, including the C-Suite
  • Exhibits self-awareness, resilience, and agility. Has strong consultancy skills; able to manage multiple projects prioritizing and acting with a sense of urgency

What the job involves

  • Workday is investing in strengthening our executive leadership pipeline to ensure that we are identifying and developing executives to take the company forever forward as we continue to scale
  • This is a strategic role that will work cross-functionally to deliver outcome-focused executive talent practices (i.e. succession planning, skills assessment, talent calibration) in order to deeply understand our current leadership capabilities, identify future capability needs and develop programmatic solutions to close identified gaps
  • This role will focus on using data and talent management expertise to identify the highest value opportunities and influence stakeholder alignment
  • This role reports to the VP, Talent Management and Development and will be responsible for developing a focused cross-functional strategy and ensuring on-going coordination across Talent Management, Talent Development, Executive Talent Acquisition, Executive Compensation, Chief Diversity Officer and People Business Partner teams
  • Strategy Development: Create and implement an overarching strategy and detailed roadmap, with a focus on key activities and investments that will drive business outcomes
  • Business Acumen: Understand the business needs and challenges of the organization and can translate them into talent management strategies that drive business outcomes
  • Collaboration: Deliver the Executive Talent Strategy and C-Suite Talent Reviews in partnership and close collaboration with the People Business Partners
  • Be a collaborative leader who understands how to achieve buy-in from diverse constituencies across a matrixed organization
  • Affinity for Technology: Learning agility to deep-dive into Workday product capabilities, understanding how to translate talent practices into technical specifications
  • Functional Expertise: SME in Succession Planning, Skills Assessment, Executive Performance Frameworks, Program Design and Implementation, Talent Segmentation and Differentiation
  • Bring an “outside in” perspective, sharing market best practices and innovative talent recommendations
  • Project Management & Analytics: Understand Executive capabilities, assess future needs, propose, develop and run/implement programs to fill the gaps
  • Use a data-drive approach to identify focus areas. Have needle-moving measurement at the forefront of program design
  • Communication: Ability to craft messaging and frame complex concepts for an executive audience; high presentation quality, strong facilitator with excellent verbal and written communication skills

Our take

Workday is a cloud-based software vendor that provides management of workforces and finances. The company uses a single database for workforce management and financial management to offer integration and optimize business intelligence across companies. It has added to the packages and tools it offers over the years, providing analytic options that allow companies to combine third-party data with information collected by Workday.

Workday has acquired and paired up with many other companies to keep expanding its offering. In 2021, it purchased the employee feedback platform Peakon in response to the growing need for managers to be able to survey workers and collect satisfaction data without face-to-face meetings. The company has also bought and developed many financial tools and HR management tools.

The company’s goal is to provide end-to-end back office services and while there are other providers, such as UKG Pro and Ceridian HCM, Workday’s broad offering helps them to stand out. Though it faced a tough global market in 2023 and has shed some of its headcount, Workday has seen a 6.5% gain in value in the first quarter of 2024. It is now focusing on growth and developing the AI capabilities of its platform. .
