Who you are
- Have 8+ years of software development and infrastructure experience with significant contributions
- Have a track record of influencing technical direction across teams and driving alignment on long-term platform strategy
- Enjoy navigating complex, ambiguous problems and bringing clarity to technical decision-making
- Lead cross-functional initiatives from concept to adoption, with a focus on creating durable, scalable systems
- Act as a mentor and thought partner to other senior engineers, helping elevate technical standards across the org
- Have experience with AWS or other cloud based providers
- Have experience with orchestration systems, CI/CD, and production observability

What the job involves
- Platform Engineering is a family of teams focused on creating and supporting the tools used by all Application and Service Developers at Stitch Fix
- We focus on creating low friction tools and practices to maximize developer happiness
- We practice modern platform practices like Infrastructure-as-Code, Immutable Infrastructure, use of Containers, and leverage AWS as well as many other Cloud SaaS offerings
- As a Principal Engineer on the Dev Platform team, you will be building and improving Stitch Fix's cloud native infrastructure
- You'll develop tools and automation that enable internal product developers to deploy and debug apps and microservices easily and efficiently
- You'll work closely with a distributed team of engineers to design innovative solutions that streamline our operations and help our broader engineering group scale effectively
- Define and execute a vision for our internal Platform-as-a-Service that scales with our evolving engineering and business needs
- Design, develop, and maintain intuitive tools to increase our innovation velocity across the company
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to identify and drive improvements to our platform & developer experience
- Have autonomy to help shape the future of the developer platform at Stitch Fix by bringing your ideas on improving and codifying what we do and how we do it
Our take
Shopping online for clothes is not always a fun experience. Finding clothes you like is only half the battle. Sizing guides and return policies seem to have been designed to be challenging to understand, and can also vary wildly from company to company.
Stitchfix sets out to change this by making online clothes shopping personalized and hassle-free. Customers take a survey on their personal tastes, and pay a one-off fee for a stylist, to receive a box of 5 personalized items. Then, they simply pay for any items they keep, or return what they don't want free of charge. The stylists fee is deducted from the first purchase and if they keep all 5 items, they receive a discount.
Stitchfix's unique blend of technology, and human touch in styling, allows the company to deliver its personalized experience at scale, with its growing data sets putting them in a great place to predict consumer trends and preferences. Unfortunately, the company has been hit hard by the current economic climate - cutting staff back in June 2022 as well as again in early 2023. Only time will tell if this once exciting brand will be able to bounce back from this bump in the road and find success again in the future.
