Who you are
- We are looking for individuals who have worked across the stack on incredible user-centric products and who are passionate about building the future of generative AI products
- Extensive experience in building frameworks, libraries, and distributed systems with an eye for reliability, observability, and performance
- Proven proficiency in software development, with hands-on experience in Python or other programming languages such as Go, Java, Node.js or C++
- Ability to craft and deliver high-quality software solutions, including production-ready code, RESTful APIs, and managing infrastructure to industry standards
- Track record of successfully delivering complex projects with clear, structured thinking and leadership from concept to deployment
- Experience working in dynamic, fast-paced environments, such as startups, thriving in collaborative, growth-oriented settings
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams from diverse backgrounds
- Strong ownership and personal accountability which are driven by your problem-solving skills, creativity, and initiative in driving projects to completion
- Bonus: Experience in AI, legal tech, or social impact projects
What the job involves
- As a Backend Software Engineer on EvenUp’s Demands Product Engineering Team, you’ll work closely with our AI, Legal, and GTM teams to scope and implement solutions that increase the speed, velocity, and quality of the products that deliver value to our customers
- As part of our team, you'll drive future innovations that will significantly impact the business in support of EvenUp’s mission to ensure that personal injury victims receive the rightful compensation they deserve
- Enhancing the capabilities of EvenUp’s AI-native and human-in-the-loop workflows
- Implementing and integrating LLM-based solutions that immediately improve outcomes for our customers
- Developing the systems to evaluate the efficacy and quality of key customer deliverables
- Contributing to the evolution of EvenUp’s flagship Demands product at the bleeding edge of the present-day AI revolution
- In doing so, you’ll supercharge the engine that powers EvenUp, collaborating with leaders across the company to execute on mission-critical opportunities
- You’ll uphold the high-quality bar on our team, and directly impact EvenUp’s success by applying data-driven insights alongside our foundational commitment to crafting exceptional customer-driven experiences
- Rapidly prototype and deliver innovative, zero-to-one solutions by developing and integrating AI-powered features into end-to-end AI workflows, ensuring a balance between cutting-edge technology and practical implementation to meet customer needs
- Collaborate with our founders, product managers, and designers to brainstorm, scope, and realize new features
- Establish best practices for architecture, coding, and delivery while scoping, leading, and building user-facing experiences, services, APIs, and systems
- Deliver secure, compliant code for sensitive data, ensuring quality through testing, reviews, and standards adherence while monitoring, debugging, and optimizing performance across the stack
- Mentor team members by providing feedback on code and design, while actively contributing to team culture, retrospectives, and continuous improvement efforts
- Handle on-call responsibilities to resolve issues and reduce toil, while documenting processes to ensure alignment with company and industry standards
Our take
Every year, millions of personal injury cases in the US are resolved with only a small fraction going to trial, leaving many victims potentially under-compensated due to inaccurate settlement proposals. EvenUp aims to change this by leveraging AI technology to streamline the assessment of injury cases.
The AI tools evaluate raw case files, including medical and police records, creating tailored "demand packages" that present comprehensive compensation arguments. This improves lawyer performance and victim outcomes.
Despite concerns about AI bias and privacy, EvenUp has garnered significant investor interest, closing a funding round in 2024 that was one of the largest in the history of legal AI. Now valued at over $1 billion, it is investing in its team and introducing new techniques and products for personal injury and other legal areas.
