Who you are
- 4+ years of professional experience working in product design
- Ability to develop work that represents strong understanding of design fundamentals (visual hierarchy, interaction design, application of brand and system)
- Effective articulation of ideas and design solutions

What the job involves
- The Buyer Experience Team is focussed on driving excellence and connection in the customer experience. We believe in the need to maintain a rigored focus on craft and consistency in order to bring our strategy and mission to life
- In this role, you will be defining and designing new experiences and improving on existing ones in close collaboration with cross-functional product partners in engineering, research, analytics, marketing and product management
- This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director of Product Design
- Product designers at Etsy work in a squad alongside a product manager, 4-6 engineers, a researcher and a data analyst. Together they drive their own part of the Etsy customer experience by delivering solutions to problems and getting feedback directly from customers
- Designing polished, interactive prototypes to bring your team’s roadmap to life
- Sharing your work with peers and leadership to collect feedback and iterate
- Taking part in weekly design critiques, workshops, and squad meetings
- Thinking and writing about your process and documenting your decisions
- Collaborating with engineering to build your design to spec before launch
- Collecting feedback through both research and experimentation to refine and iterate on your designs
- Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law

Our take
Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.
Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.
However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. A hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers created significant discontent amongst sellers. Despite this, Etsy continues to connect artists and consumers, attracting shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
