Who you are
- Extensive experience building frameworks, libraries, and distributed systems with a focus on reliability, observability, and performance
- Proven proficiency in Python or other languages such as Go, Java, Node.js, or C++
- Track record of delivering production-ready code, RESTful APIs, and managing infrastructure to industry standards
- Experience leading complex projects from concept through deployment, with clear, structured thinking and technical leadership
- Ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments, such as startups, with strong collaboration skills
- Excellent communication skills and a history of successful cross-functional teamwork
- Strong ownership, creativity, and initiative—driven to solve problems and deliver results autonomously

What the job involves
- As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll work cross-functionally to scope and implement impactful solutions that increase the speed, capacity, and quality of EvenUp’s document generation engine
- You’ll be a high-ownership self-starter focused on end-user value, driving innovations core to our mission: ensuring personal injury victims receive the compensation they deserve
- Enhance EvenUp’s AI-native and expert-review document workflows
- Implement and integrate LLM-based solutions to improve customer outcomes
- Develop systems to evaluate the efficacy and quality of key customer deliverables
- Contribute to the evolution of AI-driven document products at the cutting edge of innovation
- Collaborate with company leaders on mission-critical opportunities to supercharge the EvenUp engine
- Uphold a high-quality engineering bar, applying data-driven insights to create exceptional customer experiences
Our take
Every year, millions of personal injury cases in the US are resolved with only a small fraction going to trial, leaving many victims potentially under-compensated due to inaccurate settlement proposals. EvenUp aims to change this by leveraging AI technology to streamline the assessment of injury cases.
The AI tools evaluate raw case files, including medical and police records, creating tailored "demand packages" that present comprehensive compensation arguments. This improves lawyer performance and victim outcomes.
Despite concerns about AI bias and privacy, EvenUp has garnered significant investor interest, closing a funding round in 2025 that was one of the largest in the history of legal AI. Now valued at over $2 billion, it is investing in its team and introducing new techniques and products for personal injury and other legal areas.
