Role
Who you are
- Deep experience in React, Typescript, and building for the Web. You have experience of at least 2 years working with technologies we use and have the experience of being a technical lead to design and implement new features for the browser
- Act with Autonomy and Ownership. Can work independently and with the team as needed and be accountable end-to-end through planning, deployment, and maintenance, showing ownership of their own work in production. Proactively identifies and suggests solutions to problems impacting the team. Knows how to create their own learning path, proactively seeking out the resources they need to level up
- Experience working across an application stack. You have experience with modern frontend and backend languages. You have delivered features for which you built the UI, as well as the database migrations, services, and API endpoints that power them. You also bring experience with services that interact with distributed data stores, like event streaming (Kafka)
- Comfortable supporting production software. You have experience shipping features to production and understand how to investigate and triage issues in your deployed code. You may have participated in an on-call rotation before and have opinions about making it an effective and positive experience (read about how we track on-call health)

What the job involves
- As a Full-Stack Senior Engineer on this team, you’ll join a growing engineering team building a range of features pivotal to Enterprise Honeycomb customers. These customers are growing and need to scale up Honeycomb usage and experience to allow their people and teams to use us effectively
- Automated management and organization (via APIs and Terraform) of Honeycomb resources (boards, triggers, SLOs, etc.) and automated lifecycle management of users, teams, and their data (datasets/environments)
- Lifecycle organization and management of users and teams via UI and API. In the future, we hope to enable organizations to mirror their organizational structure within Honeycomb
- Addressing maturity expectations and solving problems for enterprises and customers with many Users and Teams
- Build and deliver quality software. You will write code across the full application stack, primarily in Typescript/React and Go. While most of your time will be focused on delivering software, you will be trusted to model best practices, work on team-level projects, and weigh in on larger technical decisions with the team
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners. Our team follows a product triad model composed of design, product, and engineering. You will collaborate with these partners, beginning with problem discovery through solution design and delivery. We work through building small changes/experiments and then iterate based on customer interaction
- Support our software/systems in production. We believe in owning the software that we build. The ownership is built through defining our own team KPIs, product SLOs, and alerting. Every engineer on the team participates in an on-call rotation to support issues that our customers encounter (reactive) and to look for other areas of toil that our customers may face (proactive)
- Learn new ways to solve complex problems. As our company and product grow, we regularly face new challenges in scaling to meet our customers’ demands. You will learn new technologies as we look for new ways to use our databases, caches, and streams to optimize for this growth. With the support of your team and the larger organization you can be creative in your problem solving, experiment carefully, and participate in designing novel solutions
- Wear the tech lead or feature lead hat. The ideal candidate would probably enjoy a variety in their work and be willing to jump between creating software and helping break down work to support the team to deliver against its goals. You will be expected to successfully plan, lead, and deliver complex, multi-team or system, long-term projects, including ones with external dependencies
- Values clear, open communication and teamwork. We see clear, thoughtful, and regular written & face-to-face communication (including a willingness to give & receive feedback) as a fundamental engineering skill and one of the strongest predictors of future engineering impact, not just a nice to have, and we hope you do too. Our take
Traditional processes of debugging apps and IT services are becoming obsolete due to the mass adoption of cloud-based tools. However, whilst cloud-based development presents a modern and unified solution to application building, frameworks for troubleshooting such services are not currently something many businesses are prepared for.
Honeycomb provides troubleshooting tools that allow cloud-based software developers to observe code on API tools, live applications, and microservices. The troubleshooting dashboard is designed to be highly visual and user-friendly, thus allowing developers to diagnose cloud-based problems without having a deep understanding of computer science.
The company is building on its 2022 momentum after achieving another consecutive year of 2x revenue growth, driving 160% net revenue retention for its 600+ customers around the globe. Series D awarded in 2023 will be channelled into geographical expansion and supporting its products. Honeycomb’s approach is unique as it is facilitating the harmonious deployment of cloud-based debugging tools in a landscape where such services are essential yet difficult to understand.
